It makes sense, though. If all the characters have an alternate at Secret Bakery, then why wouldn't Marten? Anyways, Faye and Marten met outside of the shop, just like Renee and Angus, plus Marten and Faye came very close to dating, even if they didn't. And then both Angus and Marten ended up at the other's original shop because of an ex.
No I don't think so, actually. If you look back at it, it's pretty clear that one of those alt characters is supposed to actually BE Marten. The one filled with self loathing over whether or not to ask the girl out. The one convincing him is probably either steve or sven. It was a throwback to a couple of earlier strips.
Exactly. And Angus doesn't have an alternate...he is Angus at both, hence why Padma is getting such a kick out of the fact that Faye and Renee are so much alike.
Still, Faye and Marten met outside of the shop, but that doesn't make Angus = Marten, because Angus didn't date Bizarro's Dora, nor did he live with Bizarro's Faye, Renee. He was still just Angus, hitting on her.
See, I just figured that part of the "bizarro" aspect of it is that alt-Faye and alt-Marten actually dated, while in CoD, they didn't. Not that far apart, seeing as how close Marten and Faye got. Not everything correlates exactly. After all, bizarro CoD is actually a bakery, alt-Dora is black, etc.
I think the best argument is that the other guy we saw was alt-Marten. I'd forgotten about him.
I still think it's not out of the question, though. Marten and Angus are not all that different.
I think your theory requires too many changes. Whereas, in Bizarro Universes alteregos are usually instantly recognizable, which is what makes the joke. There might be minor cosmetic differences, but the people themselves are essentially the same. If Marten is Angus, then there's nobody who is Mopey Guy, who is way more like Marten in the first place.
And really, I don't see Marten and Angus as being that much alike, except for the fact that they were attracted to the same woman, in which case Marten, Angus and Sven are all alike (which we know isn't true).
I think the last point in your post is the most relevant.
Marten and Angus do some to have ended up in some similar situations at different coffeeshops, but they actually aren't particularly similar characters. They don't look similar. They don't act similar. They have completely different relationship styles. I just don't see it. The situation is not enough if the characters AS PEOPLE don't have more similarity to go along with it.
Getting offended over my interpretation of a drawn cartoon character whose name I'd obviously forgotten (as it's really the only way to know she's Indian) is a little silly.

But if you haven't watched Seinfeld, you wouldn't get that.
