This week, in Tempting Fate, WMC second virtual season’s 8th episode and the brainchild of
darandkerry, a lot happens. The SFPD, with the Club’s unrelenting help, takes down a copycat killer. While a serial killer moves out of Lindsay’s dwelling, another sinister character moves in. Two club members are officially let in on the other two’s secret. Martha becomes a prisoner in her own house, and one of the most menacing personages in the history of San Francisco returns. With one statement he promises to disrupt harmony; Muffin Man, aka Pete Raynor Lindsay’s ex, vows to win her back. Perhaps very deliberately, he announces his intent to Lindsay’s new lover. This very well-executed but horrifying twist lays the ground work for some undoubtedly excellent up-coming drama/angst. In the long run, who will end up causing more damage Hallelujah Man or Muffin Man?
With the non-Hallelujah-Man-related case, darankerry thoughtfully weaves a very intriguing murder mystery in which an inept copycat is revealed. She leads us down a sinuous road flanked by clues that keep us guessing the identity of the culprit until the last act.
Although not at the center of this week’s story, Hallelujah Man is still very much present. He threatens to take over for the evicted Kiss Me Not Killer when signs of a new obsession begin to manifest in Lindsay’s behavior. Not only is the inspector’s mind being invaded but so is her home. A fearsome figure, with eerily familiar vibes, violates her sanctuary and steals her most private and intimate moments.
From the onset of Tempting Fate to the last act, darandkerry adroitly maneuvers from humor to drama, she depicts the four women’s friendship and support for one another with utmost realism and care. Her contribution to the Women’s Murder Club virtual season 2, only adds to the pleasurable experience reading it has been.
wmc_vs 1- Jacobi is the coolest. That’s why I chose to quote him in the title. :)
2- Love the fact that Lindsay agreed to let Cindy help her take down the KMN shrine, without any resistance.
3- Tom is such a doofus, but he’s a lovable doofus. Can’t wait till he learns bout L/C
4- The Circle of Love; It was great how Claire and Jill automatically accepted L/C when they found out (though, they already knew ;) ) and reached out to them.
5- As for the cliffhanger? It’s the kind of cliffhanger other cliffhangers want to be when they grow up.
I wonder how they ever solved anything before Cindy came into their lives, heh.
And it would seem that Pete, the Impediment is not only handy with webcams, ugh! Even if my assumption is wrong, I want Lindsay to …no I want the entire Club to kick his sleazy ass all the way back to the Far East.
