A New, New Hope (no spoilers)

Several weeks ago Mrs Q asked: Did I want to go and see the new Star Wars film? Yes, I did. I expected it would be on for ages, and we would go sometime after Christmas, but then I was told we had tickets for the 17th December.

I enjoyed it; not as much as my favourite in the series, The Empire Strikes Back, and possibly not as much as Star Wars itself. But it's certainly better than the prequels, and probably better than Return of the Jedi as far as I am concerned. It's like Moffat writing for Doctor Who: a lot of the material is references and in-jokes for the fans. I was pleased to identify the sections of the film that had been done at Greenham Common, near Newbury. Subtle and nuanced it isn't, but then again, the whole franchise is based around a simple good-versus-evil storyline.
