Today - to console myself about my day of paperwork - I got sushi. From that little place in the mall... not the best sushi ever, but there was lots of it, and it has made me rather happy.
My LJ committment didn't last all that long. But I'm feeling procrastinate-y, so even though I have very little to post about, well, here I am. Typing.
I'm on my medicine rotation, which I have been looking forward to all year because I find I really like hearing about other people's medicine cases. Furthermore, last week's medicine crew was pretty relaxed, often bored, with a low case-load, and the opportunity to eat dinner at home most nights. Of course I should have known this would not last until my week.
Somehow I got stuck with all of the overnight cases in my service - giving me crappy 7am-9pm days all week. Then, on call Friday night, I got 3 new, critical-ish cases, which two days later are still tons of work. So I've been living at OVC this weekend, and I am not at all refreshed for next week.
This is what I remember feeling like during my surgery rotation - like the cases I'm working on are genuinely facinating and satisfying, but I am so tired and generally dazed that I can't learn from them or even take care of them to the best of my ability. I really do love medicine, but I don't feel like I'm retaining very much at the moment.
At least all of my patients are super-wonderful. I have one little feline patient who is imporving every day, and will likely go home early this week. I also have a super-sweet Doberman who is doing well, and an ultra-snuggly Miniature Schnauzer, who we don't know what's wrong with yet. If she has lymphoma I will be very upset... I'm hoping for irritable bowel syndrome... with complications.
So, yeah. That's my life right now. Awesome patients, WAY too much paperwork, long hours... on Thursday I stopped by Calder and Jer's and saw a movie called 'Sheep' - a horror movie where the scary villians are indeed sheep. It was pretty sweet.
And I made japanese curry this week, which was super-successful. Wahoo!
