And more game design exercises ... lesson four

Lesson four came with yet another game design exercise.

This time the goal was to: Make a board game adaptation of a videogame. Make a prototype in an hour. For extra challenge, make it an adaptation of a game designed for the Atari 2600.

ET The Extra Terrestrial - An adaptation by Carl de Visser from the Atari game )

I don't have too much to say about this one. It seems like a complete game, albeit one I would never be interested in. However it might have kid appeal and really would have back when ET was the rage.

Question, if there is a piece next to you do you go along the line to the next piece or can you go along the line to any space on that line? Is it a 1 space move or a slide move like in Yinch?

No. Weirdly it is probably one of the easier games to adapt as a board game. The initial design doesn't seem that bad, it has some ideas that would work better as a boardgame though. It was created in 5 weeks however. That didn't help it. If you read the gameplay descriptions, it sounds like you could actually play it and finish it. So it wasn't bad in the buggy unplayable mess way, it was just absolutely no fun whatsoever.
