Hello everybody! New co-mod here, just thought I'd drop in with a new theme, since I'm fly like that XD
The UK Theme
Since I'm partly-British, this is the one I was raised on, so I figured that the UK series, the original and beloved, more of a quirky comedy than the drama or the states, should get it's own small little theme. So behold! Five main character options! XD
(I'll post the application tomorrow, falling asleep |D)
Vince Tyler:
The horribly doomed BFF of the sexy protagonist, Vince is doomed to be forever in the 'friends' coloumn, possibly the only seperate friend from lover he's actually had, or possibly only friend. A lover of 'cheap science fiction', (in Stuart's words), Doctor Who, and shyly following Stuart around on his exploits, he still manages to maintain an air of innoncence and sweetness desipite all the craziness going on around him. Closeted at work, repressed otherwise, Stuart constantly mocks him for not having the balls to come out of the closet, and the feeling is is that Stuart can't respect him when he doesn't have a backbone. Stuart sometimes also uses Vince to his own advantage. Stuart often underestimates Vince until he actually threatens to leave, in where he chases him down the road.
Having had a crush on Stuart since school, people constantly wonder why Vince hasn't moved on. Simple: He's completely romantic. He constantly believes Stuart will come through because he knows his true character and loyalty, and they do eventually get together in some way in the end, suggested becoming partners.
Stuart Allan Jones:
'Stuart Allan Jones, you have a wank, I'll get the coffee.'
Ah yes, our protagonist, Stuart Allan Jones. Seductive, seemingly confident, charming, completely sure of himself sexually and of his looks and powers of persausion, no one is immune to his charms, not even self-proclaimed 'straight' men. Dealing with having a kid to share with 'the lesbians', Stuart's constant and really only true friend besides Alexander is Vince, and possibly the only person left in Britain Stuart hasn't shagged. Therefore, there is constant tension between the two, bost sexually and with unspoken emotions.
Making the mistake of 'bedding a virgin', Stuart immediately regrets rimming Nathan and tries to shake him off any way he can, but growing to like 'the stupid bugger' in the end.
We see Stuart mature through the series as well, but in a different way than Nathan. Stuart, nearing the ripe old age of 30, starts to see himself as over the hill, and starts to doubt his party lifestyle. When actual romance, and not lust, buds between Stuart and Vince, there is always the underlying tension of other men (Usually Nathan competing for Stuart's attention), even though Vince knows Stuart and accepts him. As the series says, he'll be there when all the other boys are gone.
Finally, Stuart also is complex in his sexuality. He constantly criticizes and even sneers at Vince's inability to get laid, his love of 'cheap science fiction', and his closeted nature, even when he's in his late 20s. However, Stuart is ironically in the closet himself towards certain parts of his family, his sexuality only revealed when a little brat of a relative of his tries to use Stuart's sexuality against him to get what he wants, prompting Stuart into one of the most poignant rants on the show.
'Because I'm queer. I'm gay. I'm homosexual. I'm a poof, I'm a poofter, I'm a ponce. I'm a bumboy, battyboy, backside artist, bugger, I'm bent. I am that arsebandit. I lift those shirts. I'm a faggot-ass, fudge-packing, shit-stabbing uphill gardener. I dine at the downstairs restaurant, I dance at the other end of the ballroom. I'm Moses and the parting of the red cheeks. I fuck and am fucked. I suck and am sucked. I rim them and wank them, and every single man's had the fucking time of his life. And I am not a pervert. If there's one twisted bastard in this family, it's this little blackmailer here. So congratulations, Thomas. I've just officially outed you.'
Despite Stuart constantly criticizing Vince, he secretly loves everything about him. He has no qualms about driving a car through a window, strapping explosives to a car, or sucking off a groom at his own wedding. Anythin to get him that next high.
Nathan Maloney:
A cocky 15-year old just discovering his sexuality, you see him grow through the course of the series from a shy, retiring and gentle schoolboy into a full fledged sex god of Canal Street. Nathan's first experience with gay sex was unfortunately with Stuart Allan Jones, who basically jumps everything he sees, and it has an imprint on him. He's convinced he's hopelessly in love with Stuart, and follows him everywhere like a stalker puppy. XD Eventually he gets so cocky that he suggests that Stuart is over the hill, and that he should take over watch of the Manchester gay district when Stuart starts to realize that there's more to life than just partying and having orgies, thanks to the help of his longtime friend, Vince Tyler. Nathan is left at the end of the series as basically the sex king of Manchester, taking up the gauntlet of the partying lifestyle and being the most charming and sexually desirable guy on the block.
Alexander Perry:
Alexander Perry is the supergay of the supergay. Flamboyant, hilarious, and outrageous, he also has a more settled side in his fierce loyalty to his friends, Stuart and Vince, and for one, finds it amusing that Nathan follows the two of them around.
He also has a more serious side, in his estrangement with his father, seen in one of the later episodes, when his father basically refuses to see him on his deathbed, just because he's gay. Which is where Stuart comes in and kicks some ass XDD Alexander is basically every straight man's stereotype about gays XD
Hazel Tyler:
Hazel is like the mom you wish you had, even if you had the best mum in the world. Cool, fun, not afraid to embarrass herself, and understanding to boot, she's kind and takes in Nathan for a while even when he's a complete twat to her and calls her a 'mong', which, for Americanspeakers, is basically a 'tard. With endless amounts of patience (Except for when it comes to her son and Stuart's relationship) and always a wise word, she's possibly more of a best friend and advisor than mom. And that's what we all love about her. I mean, she goes partying with her son XDD Tight.
