I think I stumbled upon one of the 'fics on your website a long time ago, and somehow meandered over here, and was delighted when I was rechecking my bookmarks to find a newly posted Ted!piece.
Not many people write him with a sympathy that I think Cowlip intends -- Ted's everyone's butt-boy, the guy who gets a blood-clot from using Viagra, who falls into the thrall of a drug addiction after only a few months of use, whose "good" night at Babylon consists of only being rejected by less than five guys. But rather than revert to the old point-and-laugh schtick by playing up Ted's potential "crush" on Brian and Brian's derision of him and his feelings, you had him manage the situation with, if not grace, at least a bit of dignity still in-tact. This was my favourite line:
the failure of achieving his goal pinged in Ted's gut, but it was not the acute pain of loss, but rather the vague feeling that he'd missed the point somewhere along the lines.
Because I really *don't* think Ted's "in love" with Brian; he wants to be him, perhaps -- his borrowing Brian's bracelet/loft in season two for an evening, and his attempts to mimic Brian's business savvy in season four are indicative of this in canon -- but unlike Michael, he doesn't have a hopeless crush.
