On a Huge Campus

Huge Campus, originally uploaded by q-rai.
We arrived Tuesday night at the apartment. As a flight to the workshop in Saltlake City had been canceled, everyone was there and we had nice Indian dinner with 7 people.

After trying to sleep on a cheap, normal-sized bed with two people (and breaking it), we moved to the sofa in the living-room. Damn, that was very uncomfortable.

The next morning, I woke up very early again and decided to go to the gym. There wasn't terribly much choice so I just went with fitness training and a bit of muscle training for my back.

After breakfast, we took the bus to university. And WOW, that was a huge campus! It has huge green patches between the buildings and there are people riding bikes everywhere (it was finals week though, so it wasn't as busy as usual, I was told).

We walked almost completely over it to get to Academic Surge, where Mathias' cubicle was. I must say I quite liked the cubicles. The only really bad point was that there was no daylight in the lab.
I snuck into a meeting of the work group and learned about quite a lot of interesting projects. At some point, the leader said "I don't know youuu!" so I introduced myself.
There were quite a lot of people I hadn't seen for a while so I spent most of the day chatting ;)

Thursday was a proper work day. I wrote most of my summary for the mentoring programme.
In the evening we all went to Applebees for dinner. They actually didn't have a single vegetarian meal, can you believe that? Even the salads all contained chicken or seafood. I had to settle for nachos with artichocks and spinach (nice sauce, but seriously, nachos for dinner?) and a very nice and very chocolaty dessert. Not a proper meal, really, but it filled me up.

Also, Daniel picked up the rental car for our apartment. It was a van - pretty much of a Mum Vehicle, so he was called Mum for the rest of the week. And Mum actually didn't turn right at one point! ;)

Friday I mostly packed and we left for Bodega Bay during lunchtime.
