2016!
On the fiction front, it's not so bad!
Movies, I saw five different films. Unusually, I saw *three* of them twice in theaters, I liked 'em so much! This is not common for me ^^
The list:
1 Moana
2 Zootopia
3 Shin Godzilla
4 Jungle Book
5 Ghostbusters
I enjoyed 'em all, but that's roughly the order, with the top three scoring re-watched. I don't know if Moana'll stay on top long-term, it is the freshest in my head, but definitely gonna stay in the top 2. I loved the mythology and culture in it!
TV shows? Steven Universe. Cartoons are good at providing a positivity and humor, and SU additionally packs *so much* character and depth in it's 15-minute episodes, tackling some rough psychological stuff, and the most LGBT+ show on television period. Love this show.
Novels, now, I don't exactly remember what novels I did and didn't read this year? ^^ I definitely read 'Visitor,' the latest in CJ Cherryh's Foreigner series, and Challenges of the Deep, third in Ryk Spoor's Grand Central Arena series, and loved 'em both. Aside from that, I did a fair amount of re-reading and... less, might read 'Implied Spaces' which was also pretty solid, but all in all not the heaviest year for new novels for me.
Manga, read a ton, can't be bothered to list ( ;) ), but I'll dub 'My Hero Academia' as my fav. It's a really good superhero manga that blends some of the best aspects of superheroes and shounen fight together, with a good sized cast who get development. Aside from that, mostly following ones I've been on for a few years and/or new ones who aren't quite far enough in for me to judge. Spread out media like manga is tough like that!
US comic, Greg Rucka's Lazarus takes the top spot. SF set a century or so down the road, where super-wealthy families have divvied up the world... it's very good stuff. I'm also reading fun comics like Squirrel Girl, and Lumberjanes (love Lumberjanes!), but that's my top spot.
Webcomics,
Kill Six Billion Demons takes the top spot, with a rich mythology full of world building and great art. It took me . In second-but-still-awesome place there's
Stand Still Stay Silent, the Scandinavian post-apoc comic, which is surprisingly upbeat for a post-apoc, uses the horrifying 'trolls' sparingly and to good effect, and has a cast I like. Then there's
Star Power, the SF/Superhero webcomic. It's fun, it's upbeat and positive, I like it. That's my top three this year.
