Katsucon '16!
Katsucon! I am back from it!
First of all the reg line was horrible (I think the con is simply getting too big, it was moving just fine there were simply so many), and second someone thought a schedule-ap was a proper replacement for a nice paper schedule, making finding stuff more difficult (an ap is both slower, and requires batteries, and when one's phone batteries are drained from using it to stave off boredom in a 2+ hour line...).
On the bright side, I saw a couple artists I had interest in. Yamino, (I tried to snag a Sister Clare book but she was out ;_; ) Bar who had a table full of gaming stuff, and probably some others ^^ I could've even met a few of you reading this!
Cosplay was good- saw a nice band of RWBY on the way out ^^ Btw, I've finished season 2 of RWBY, waiting for the third to come out.
A lotta good panels, I was impressed with how many historical ones there were! (One interesting topic that came up- Miyamoto Musashi was never recorded as being involved in any relationships. I raised the possibility he might've been Ace [Asexual], which the historian-panelist found very interesting) There was one about homosexuality in Japan- historically and modern.
There was an interesting panel on the symbolism in Yuri Kuma Arashi (Translation: Lesbian Bear Storm), of which, being an anime by the maker of Utena, there was a lot of (stuff like 'this character's house is based on Norman Bate's house from Psycho, this bit is a direct reference to the Italian movie Disturbia', 'going up spiral stairs represented not having a clear view of goals,' etc.).
Did not get much at the deals room- most of the older series I follow don't have new stuff, most of the new ones I'm super into don't *yet* have much stuff (My Hero Academia being a key example).
Anyway, fun con, but the issues mean I'm like going to dial back my connage there in the future.
My rating: B-. It's getting a bit big for my tastes.
