Steampunk Snow White

May 04, 2014 07:07

One of the great artists over at Antarctic Press, Rod Espinosa, last year put out a one-shot story called 'Steampunk Snow White' as part of AP's 'steampunk' line.

But really, 'Steampunk Snow White' is a bit of a misnomer.

No, it should be called 'Steampunk Wuxia Snow White,' for her Kung Fu is superior!

The tale begins as many Snow White tales do, with the Queen heavily taxing and oppressing the people and Snow White aiding a rebel in attacking tax collectors.... wait, what?

"You have surpassed me with your skills, but even you cannot parry all the darts from two quad-bore catapults!"

Alas, he cannot do it, and he bids his student to flee, as the Queen has sent additional forces to make sure he finishes the job, and he buys her time with his life!

She falls off a cliff into the river and her life is saved due to the aid of 7 badgers..

And while she works in repair for their help, she also teaches them her ways, starting with the youngest, who is suspicious of her coming from the castle of their oppressors.

And there's something about a poison apple and a rebellion....

Steampunk Snow White is an interesting adaptation in that, while it's clearly Snow White, it has enough twists and changes to make it interesting and it's own thing, and it's Snow White her own character.

6 pages from Steampunk Snow White by Rod Espinosa.
