Two days ago I went to the Smithsonian museums and had a good time. Actually I was originally going to Union Station, but Smithsonian was closer on the metro so I changed my mind ^^ Original point of trip: To get meteorite necklaces from Smithsonian store at US. Ancient mammal megafauna is way cooler than dinosaurs, I concur!

I haven't read Falling Free either... I actually have a copy in one of the omnibuses (I think it's even one of the ones sitting on my shelf), but haven't had any particular drive to read it. But let me know when you get around to it -- maybe I'll join you!

Dinos are pretty cool too, but the mammals add some variety ^^ And the ones in question aren't even all *that* ancient, which is extra cool!

They probably were cooler, on account of the climate wasn't as hot in the Pleistocene. ^_^

So how was the Smithsonian's pizza?

Well, they lived in some fairly warm altitudes, as recently as 10k years ago, so not exactly ice-age cold for a good chunk of it ^^

It was reasonable. I mean, I wouldn't go out of the way for it, but better than most foodcourt pizza.

The specific one, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eremotherium , lived in tropical zones! (and the lower picture is the very skeleton in question, with the armadillo species we were talking about too).
