Went to a Wedding

Oct 14, 2013 22:08

Went to a wedding for my Aunt up in Vermont! Had a good time.

The wedding itself was really fun. Short, the couple obviously enjoyed themselves, kids from prior marriages each read little poems, hot cider and hot chocolate after.

Then came the reception, which was significantly longer ^^ It was in a place that overlooked a waterfall, and the food, while good, came too spaced out. The restaurant was not only a restaurant, but also a glass maker place, so before it started I got to see some glass blowing and making of glasses + glass vases, during which I talked to family members and such. I didn't eat as many as some others, but not due to lack of quality food (soup was a cheese soup and that's a bit much cheese for me. Bread was good, though the knife couldn't handle it... *could* handle the meat, however, which was the softest meat I'd ever had without doubt! Which, matters more to people who care about toughness of beef, which I don't, but it also *tasted* good). Talked to the new family members (groom's kids), who were pretty fun, I probably won't have much cause to bump into them but I wouldn't mind if I did! We talked about interests in movies, books, yadda yadda. As well as the groom's sister's husband, who I was near at the table, and thus we ended up talking about a fair number of things too.

Also up there I checked out a handful of bookstores. All independent ones, no big chains. One, Rivendell, was interesting in that it combined new books and used on the same shelves, and had a really interesting selection. Got a book on celtic myth there, a few other books... one of the others was part normal book store, part game store with also a lot of graphic novels and the only manga selection to speak of in town. Got a book there. Another was fairly conventional, save for having a vermont section, which had a really fun Vermont Monster book written by a local, which was better than a good number of general monster books I've read! Aside from the obvious (Champ, Bigfoot, etc.), it had stuff like a human-eating boulder, a 300-pound bloodsucker (which, judging by the art, was a *lot* more than 300 pounds!), and some others, all with suitably creepy art.

Anyway, had a good trip!
