Sleepless (& Lonely) in St. Catharines

Jan 27, 2008 11:20

Pre-script (P.S.): Please excuse any words that sound almost right but don't actually fit in. I've caught myself doing it a few times, prob 'cause it's early, but I may not have caught them all. This does not bode well for my chatting at work today...

Being alone kinda feels weird. With D, Saturday night was usually the one night I always saw him; he'd come over after work (usually 4 a.m. -ish) and stay over, then give me a ride to work in the morning. Working only three days a week, I am very conscious of which day is Sunday, and how "off" it feels - different from my "regular" (previous) schedule, I guess. Even when I was up in OS and didn't really find much of a relationship, when I was at home, I was with my family (and we have cats). I think the only time I was ever truly by myself would be driving to and from work, and even then I sometimes gave/got rides, (and the occassional running of errands). And I don't really have the time and energy, (nor perhaps, the inclination), to go out to bars/clubs to try to meet people. So I can go to the occassional extra-curricular thing, like Brock Pride and congregating of Jews, but that's only if it fits into my work/school schedule, and I'm for it that day. Don't get me wrong, I love the friends I do have, and the time I get to spend with them, but my existence is feeling awfully lonely nowadays.

This past week, I had to rent a car Wed because I had an appointment with a specialist (about my jaw), and it was out of town. So I made best use of the wheel while I had 'em, and Terry, Chantal and I went grocery shopping in the middle of the night (after my 7-10 class). We then decided to go on an adventure (after dropping off all the food, of course). And because it was the middle of the night in the middle of the week, that ruled out doing anything in StC. And because I had limited km, and we only had so much time, we chose somewhere somewhat close by - Niagara Falls. But as we were heading out of town, I was so engrossed in the conversation, and my passengers so trusting in my ability to get them there that they didn't say anything, and I accidentally got on the 406 instead of the QEW. So things were looking familiar, but in the wrong way. We took it all the way to the end, realized our options were Port Colborne or Welland, and called Chantal's b/f for directions. Thank the Heavens he was awake! We went under the canal, took some street all the way to Montrose, then that to Lundy's Lane, and had a marvelous time at the Flying Saucer. (Personally, I think we should have made a token stop at a strip club, since neither of them had ever been, but we'll have to save that for another time.) Altogether, I had a marvelous time; learned lots and had loads of fun.

Friday, I rented a car again, and Chantal and I drove up to TO for a "Heath Ledger Memorial Movie Marathon" at T&G. We got there later than most people, so we missed most of the food, but much drinking and laughter was had just the same. I think it's comforting to know that if I end up moving to TO for work after graduation, there are a fair number of people I could hang out with (not just my grandparents). Saturday morning, we drove back with G and Bernsie, and met up with a couple of their friends for sushi lunch - YUM. They headed to their hotel, I dropped off Chantal and her sleeping bags, returned my things to my apartment, then returned the car. I took it back a little early, but that way I got a ride home. I was way tired anyway, as evidenced by the four hour nap I took when I got home. *lol* I actually got up early Friday morning to make fudge, which then set in the fridge all day; it was much appreciated at the party - I mean, "memorial" - and helped Tiff's rice krispie squares to go further.

Last night musta been "(inadvertently) Ben Affleck night", 'cause both Armaggedon and Pearl Harbor were on TV. I watched some of both, had a good cry, (which is better than getting weepy due to cat food and greeting card commercials). Generally went to bed much too late (it was well into the a.m.), probably because of that habitual schedule I described above.

Anyway, I have woken up early enough today before work to actually have something to eat. So better go do that, so it's not a scarf-down.

Hope you are all doing lovely.
