I have studied Arabic since 11 AM yesterday, minus time for classes and meals. I still have many hours left to finish what I need to do. I basically have to go back and do all of the homework for the entire semester. We have to turn in this portfolio tomorrow that has ALL of our work for the semester. There have been many questions as to what it should contain (no help to the teacher), so just last week we really figured out what it is supposed to have. Because of other papers and stuff, I couldnt start it until yesterday morning. Luckily, I havent been working as much, so I have more time to do this crap.
It's been a little while since i updated. Last week was another one of those weeks in which I thought I was going to burn out. On Saturday I worked from 4 PM to 8 AM Sunday morning. It was a loooong shift and I got about 1.5 hours of sleep combined. I did do some study, but not for school classes. When I left work, everything was covered in snow, which was cool, except for the fact I had to drive alll the way across the city in the uncleared roads. Well, they werent too bad on Sunday morning. However, yesterday it snowed from about the time I woke up until after dinner. It just didn't stop. Today it didn't get above 21 degrees, I believe. The low was 8. Tomorrow should be a scorcher, though, since it might get above freezing. I like it, though. I am a huge fan of the cold. The snow fascinates me; I feel like such a little kid in it.
Going back to last week, on Friday I got to meet the embassadors to the US from Lithuania and Latvia! I was pretty excited to find out they were coming to BYU. Embassadors come here all the time, apparently. I just never have time to go listen to them. Recently, the embassador frm Mexico came, as well as some big wigs from the MIddle East, like the embassador from Qatar or some craziness like that. I really REALLY wanted to go to that, but once again, worked and classes impeded me. There is a stereotype, apparently, in the Baltics that Lithuanians are hotheads, Latvians are cool, and Estonians are 'cold.' The guy from Latvia was very chill, and he seemed very nice and calm. The one from Lithuania was very vociferous in his sentiments towards Russia and the Soviet Union. This guy has held important spots in Lithuania's government since liberation from the USSR; I can't remember what they are, but basically it would be equivalent to someone having been in most of the seats in the president's cabinet here in the US. All they had to say was very intriguing. I enjoyed it.
On Sunday night, Camila and I decided to do something crazy. We went to the mountains (to some park way the heck up there in the middle of nowhere). I borrowed a tarp from someone and she got her sleeping bags. We put on 1.5 bazillion layers of clothing and headed up the canyon. We spread out the tarp and put the sleeping bags on it and burrowed ourselves in the sleeping bags. We sat there for a good while just tlaking about all kinds of stuff, including familial Christmas traditions and all kinds of fun feems. The sky was completely clear, and we must have seen at least 3 shooting stars. I haven't seen a few like that anywhere in Georgia. It was all fine and dandy until Camila suddenly got this really weird feeling. She said that we had to go in that moment. We went so fast that we didn't even have time to get the sleeping bags and fold up the tarp. We went straight to the car and started heading back down towards the canyon. On the way down, we saw this herd of elk run about 20 feet in front of us. I hadnt ever seen any in real life in the wild, so it was cool. We went to this frozen lake and hung out there a little while. After it was midnight (and Monday had technically begun) we went to Wendy's to get Frostees! All in all, we had a lot of fun, despite the whole...incident...
We were still afraid to go back to where our stuff was, so we decided to get it the next morning.
I slept in because of exhaustion, and Camila went there with her mom, who is vising from Brasil. The stuff was still there as we left it, HOWEVER she made an interesting discovery. There were these huge paw prints all around the tarp and along the trail we walked. I know that there were little prints there when we were there, but there were NOT any big ones. They were CLAW prints, not hooves. She took pictures with her camera. Interesting, no?
Sigh, I guess i better get back to work.
