Alternative Wednesday!

So I thought I could do some prep work on Alternative Wednesday. Yeah, not so much. Mostly because I don't go looking through my CDs or MP3s to pick out a song that highlights a certain mood or theme or whatever. The songs I highlight tend to be whatever has most been stuck in my head for the days before I put this together and this week that track has been Catherine Wheel's "Judy Staring at the Sun".

Catherine Wheel, while a product of the shoegazing scene, doesn't seem as inexorably tied to it as some outfits (I'm looking at you My Bloody Valentine!) because of their ability to flat out rock which they did on tracks like "Black Metallic". Today's track though, "Judy" features the ever lovely Tanya Donelly of Belly sharing vocals with Rob Dickinson. Interestingly, the video is a remix of the album version with Donelly singing a verse that Dickinson sings on the album and the radio version. Featuring soaring ethereal vocals, solid drum work, and guitars that make the song, but don't dominate it, this is the kind of stuff I can listen to all day long.
