So earlier this week, there was a brief generational flareup between the Boomers and Generation X on one of the message boards I'm on. And because there's a chunk of my brain that's always thinking about music, I remembered of a compilation disc I picked up years ago creatively titled,
Generation X.
Back in 94 when this came out it was a lot harder to hear stuff that wasn't in the mainstream, especially if you didn't have a friend or family member who liked alternative rock. Because of that, I bought a LOT of sampler discs like this and discovered a lot of bands I likely wouldn't have heard of other wise. One of those bands was
Dramarama. Probably best known for their almost hit*,
Anything Anything, Dramarama was fast, loud, and different enough from grunge to get completely ignored when Nirvana hit the scene. The single on
Generation X, Work For Food, is a sneaky track, very Replacements-esque with a great, chug a lug beat that's about homelessness. Sneaky message musicians!
