I got this email from Billy's new owner.
Jaymie,
An update on Billy; she is doing very well and has gained weight. I still haven't ridden her because I discovered her problem: She has a sore back (I may have told you that). I'm not sure if it is just her back or if her kidneys were damaged by the pounding. It's too bad the trainer didn't discover this.
She's turned into a real puppy-dog, like she was with you, and is a real joy to be around. I'll let you know when I start riding her. For now, it's just rest and relaxation until her back heals and she gains a lot more weight. Just wanted to let you know that she has a home with me forever, even if I never ride her. She is one of the most affectionate horses I have ever known. I whistle for her and she trots to the gate, sticks her head into the halter, and quietly follows me out of the pasture and to the hitching post. I usually feed her there, and brush and groom her while she's eating. She NEVER pulls back on the rope, she is not herd-bound and gladly leaves her pasture companion.
She suffered a trauma (with the lessee) she didn't understand and is learning to trust again. Thank you for letting me give her the home she deserves. If you visit her, she is in pasture ****. That's about three paddocks down and on the right side. They feed hay in the morning and I usually give her cubes and oats when I visit.
I hope you are in your new home and loving it! I am writing so you don't worry about Billy and know you did the right thing.
Cheryl
*tears of happy joy*
I can not mention that abundant happiness I feel reading this. I had such an emotionally hard time finding Billy a new home and I thank God that I found her the perfect new owner. She deserved it and I'm so glad she's back to her usual sweet loving self. I MISS HER!!!!!!!!!!! But I know she's in wonderful hands. I would like to visit her and pet her sometime. I miss having a horse but don't miss the responsibility. I now know the hardship involved with horse ownership and would rather prefer spending my money and time taking lessons first until I'm an advanced rider. Somday that'll happen again and I hope at that time I find another horse as perfect as Billy.
