I have learned another thing about my past I had zero control over

Today my mom was telling me how my brother and sister in law are putting money toward the college fund for my niece.  She then let slip that my dad refused to do any such thing for me and my brother ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling really cheated by your father's lack of support. I experienced something similar in terms of unfairness; my father paid my brother's way through college, including a transition of majors halfway through so that a 4-year degree took him 6 years and also paid for my brother to do things like travel the world and buy a house and so on.

What had he in mind for me? Well, when I found some nice rich man HE approved of, he'd pay for my wedding! Oh yeah...that's fair.../sarcasm

But, you live and learn and as a friend of mine says; "unfortunately in that order" Computer science will naturally include requirements of higher math, it is a science and that is par for the course. With your mind, I would have directed you towards comparative religions, sociology, or perhaps the arts, like literature. I think you'd find literature or music analysis much more to your liking.

I was a Psychology major, and just when I had fought my way from a GED to getting my AA with honors so that I was in position to start original psych research in the honors psych program at the UW, I had a narcoleptic sleep episode while driving and crashed into a telephone pole, breaking all the knuckles of my left hand and leaving me walking with a cane for a year. But, someday I will go back. Sometimes life throws you really tough stuff to face, but don't give up.

You're smart, even if math theory isn't your thing. (hehe, if you think calc is bad, you should see statistics! sheesh!)

Hang in there and find your true center. Your life has a purpose and once you find it, you'll find your dreams laying themselves out before you.

Thank you Acacia,

Your experience sounds traumatic to say the least.

The only thing that upsets me is when there are people out there that say stuff like "you're lazy" or other no such nice things when it comes to how far you have gotten in your life.

For a long time I have felt a stumbling block did some bad effects on my path, but I am hanging in.

I am going to therapy to deal with some issues pertaining to my parents. Cause I love my mother, but she is driving me bonkers. LOL
