My local doctor's office is sort of a clinic. They are open from 9 till 9 on weekdays. Officially. It turns out, they most likely are only open until anywhere from 8:30 to 8:45, depending on their whim.
I raced over there this evening to get my PPD read. This just entails looking at my arm, where they injected a little bubble two days ago, and noting that there was no reaction. Takes all of two minutes and doesn't require a doctor or anything. I got there at 8:45 and the door was locked. There were multiple people inside, and the office lights were on, but the waiting room lights were off, and the staff were trying to pretend they didn't notice me at the door. I had to resort to being obnoxious (pulling on the door so that the bolt banged against its slot... loudly and repeatedly).
They finally cracked open the door and asked me what I wanted. I explained I just needed a PPD read. The apparent "clinician in charge" at the time approached (she wasn't the one to open the door) and tried to tell me that they were closed, as if I didn't notice the locked door and dark waiting room. I said it wouldn't take long and it was well before 9. She then tried to point out the sign that says they can stop letting in patients earlier than 9 if they are too busy. I had to point out to her that it wasn't busy at all. There were no other patients! My lousy PPD would take two minutes. If they had let me in and just done it, they would have already been finished by now, instead of arguing with me at the damn door.
Then she tried to pull the "we're a private business, not a hospital; we can close whenever we like".
Y'know, I get the whole "open till 9 doesn't mean full service till 9". If I arrive at a restaurant 15 minutes before closing, I know there's a good chance I won't be able to be served. I wouldn't begrudge them for politely turning me away, explaining that the kitchen is closed. But to lock the door and tell me, essentially, to fuck off because they don't feel like staying open until the closing time printed next to the door is really uncalled for.
If you're not going to keep the door open until AT LEAST the stated closing time, then for fuck's sake, state an earlier closing time, like 8. Then the vermin you call "patients" will be grateful when you generously take them at 8:05, and you can still lock up at 8:30 without having to piss people off.
(They did eventually take the reading. They kept resisting though, asking whether the initial portion of the test was performed at this facility, and asking why I was even having a PPD done. I thought, but did not say, Are you kidding me? You think I hauled ass to get to your office at 8:45 to show you my arm... just for kicks? Like, I would get my arm pricked somewhere else and bother you with it? Unbelievable.)
