At Games Group this afternoon, one of the new kids this year, Linus, gave me as a present from his family, a bag containing a card, a handmade candle, a jar of homemade strawberry jam, and some homemade holiday bread wrapped in foil. Looking in the bag, I thanked him and asked, is it
Stollen? He just *looked* at me, and then I realized what what I had asked had sounded like.
When I came home I brought back the leftovers of a bag of tortilla chips with me as well -- unfortunately I didn't have any refried beans or chili-type stuff around to scoop/eat with them, so I used some chana masala instead, which was good if sometimes a little odd.
Tuesday was the local shape-note group's holiday party -- originally I had decided to make some colorful m&m cookies, but then when I saw some people on Facebook mentioning it was Santa Lucia Day, I decided to make some
pepparkakor again instead, in memory of
Mimi, the one of my two Swedish grandmothers who was a big cookie-baker. I also decided that I would try adding some finely-chopped crystalized ginger in addition to the large amounts of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves the cookies have already. I measured out a quarter cup of it, but then instead of going at it with a knife decided to dump it into the Cuisinart. However, when I ran the Cusinart, instead of finely chopping the crystalized ginger, it just turned it into a paste. Oh well, I mixed the paste into the dough, and the cookies were definitely very good.
