Yet another message that originally started with "this morning", but then that I didn't finish/get back to for a while!
On the morning of June 1
broccolipwns and I took the bus downtown to watch the
Santa Cruz Pride parade. We had on matching
Vancouver Pride shirts we got last summer, as usual he got many compliments on his
"Ambidextrous" sunglasses, and I got many on my leggings, Doc Martens, headband, watch, and wristband all being in holographic gold.
broccolipwns thought there might be fewer contingents in the parade than usual, but I'm not really sure -- I noticed that PFLAG wasn't there this year, and neither were the Quakers, so
good_old_doli's sister carried one end of the banner for the new-this-year
Cabrillo group instead. There were a large number of churches and politicians as always, the latter with some urgency due to it being two days before a local election, and providing some amusement as
a petite (and successful, two days later) candidate for judge asked
broccolipwns if he was a Santa Cruz voter. Well, he may be up to around 5'9" now, but he's only 13.
As we were following the parade over to the park for the festival, the same former classmate/"singing partner" mentioned in
this message appeared beside me, and so he and I had a reprise of our "My Lovely Celia" duet while walking down the street. When we got to the park and were looking around the booths, while there didn't seem to be any "this year's cool necklace", I did get some buttons from
tvleavitt, which you can see displayed on Balor
here and
here, though only one of them has made it onto my backpack yet.
Not too much of note to report about our volunteer duty at the beverages booth this year -- though sunny, the weather wasn't as hot as it often is (for which my head was quite thankful), so we didn't get the extremely enthusiastic traffic we sometimes do, though there definitely were bursts of activity/business, and various people we knew turned up as customers for our sodas, waters, and Snapples. At one point a friend of one of the other volunteers suddenly threw a water balloon into our midst, splashing our feet a bit. We saw him walk by a few other times carrying another water balloon, but its fate remains unknown.
When our shift was done we walked over to the
Atlantis Fantasyworld comic store to see what
broccolipwns had won in the drawing mentioned in
this message. No, we didn't wind up with a five-foot-tall plush Snoopy sitting beside us on the bus ride home, but he did get a Snoopy DVD and bag with carrying case.
