Today was actually the most crowded day of the trip. I thought leaving the DC area would be bad, but I didn't have a whole lot of trouble on the East Coast. Today though...I think everyone and their mother was on their way back to school. I kept ending up in clusters of cars trying to pass trucks, while the trucks were trying to pass the slower trucks and the cars with trailers...vicious cycle, I tell you.
I got into Austin around 3pm Central, thanks to a long(er) lunch break at a Whataburger. Unless someone out there says otherwise, I probably won't be going back. It's not overwhelmingly special. Just a solid burger.
I went straight to the grocery store, which was packed. My personal theory is that since the weather was good (47 degrees!) and the Cowboys had demolished the Eagles on Saturday, everyone felt the need to take a field trip to the grocery store. I stocked up on frozen dinners, bread, salad, and carrots. It can snow any time now, I'm prepared!
I also FINALLY found a gas station where the squeegee things weren't frozen into their containers! I can see out my back windshield now! I also cleaned off my headlights and brake lights - just in case. I can't tell you the number of broken squeegees I've seen on this trip - people just got frustrated when they couldn't extract the solid block of ice from the little plastic trash can thing.
I celebrated being back by flopping down on the couch to watch some TV. I ended up watching a movie (Mamma Mia!) and trying to watch another one (P.S. I Love You), but the cable box wasn't cooperating. So instead, I selected True Blood from the HBO series options. I was curious about the show - turns out it's based off of a series of books by Charlaine Harris which I had never picked up because the original
covers were too cartoony for my tastes (click on "Search within another edition of this book" to see what I mean). Given what I've seen so far, I may have to give them a try now.
For now though, I'm freaking out about my interview tomorrow morning. I've not done nearly as much prep as I should have, despite reciting my "Tell me about a time when you failed" and "Tell me about a time when you had to persuade someone" and other such resume-stories everyday on the drive. I've been reading the sample cases the company posted too, and I'm not sure I can do these without the answers in front of me.
I think it's time for a shower and bed.
