Today and last night

Yesterday was my brother's birthday, and he insisted that we go out to dinner last night to celebrate. Not really caring that going out on a week night isn't suitable for the girls, and that I have choir on Mondays. We worked around this that we would get to the restaurant at 6pm and start without them, and they would arrive whenever they could get there. It didn't quite work that way, as Bron and the girls were running late. Anyway, I met up with the parents outside the restaurant, and Mum and I ended up having a big argument, so that started the evening off well.

I just hate the dynamics of the family when everyone's together. My mother becomes so doting on Andrew - he can do or say no wrong, even when he's down-right rude. And I'm just ignored or treated as inferior the whole time. At least, that's how it feels.

I escaped as soon as was seemly to get to rehearsal. Which was fabulous and exciting and great and all the other superlatives I could use. I was on a high until, when I was in the car getting a lift to the train station, I found out that the Gloriana concert was on a different date to that which we'd been told at the start of the year. It's a week earlier, on the same weekend as Amanda-fest in Canberra. So I called the conductor while I was sitting at the train station to work out what was going on. We're on the same flight as the madrigalises - we get in at Tullamarine at 1:05pm, the concert call is 1:15pm and the concert starts at 2:30pm. We'll make it before the concert starts, but if we're delayed for any reason we'll be screwed.

It's pissing me off because the date was changed in March or April and they didn't tell us! We booked these flights at the end of May, so there was plenty of time to notify us so that we could have got earlier flights.

The girls got into bed a little late last night, and seemed fine this morning. But Della was badly behaved again at school so at 10:15 I got a call to come and collect her. Just as I was just about to leave to go to the gym; I didn't get to go today and I can't go tomorrow either as I'm having another procedure done on my elbow.

Speaking of which, I wasn't allowed to take any painkillers today either, so today's been a bundle of fun. I suspect tomorrow's likely to be just as fun...
