Now they're finished and handed in, I guess I should update everyone!
First, a history. The project to collate messages from international fans for each YFCz member was
started with admittedly, ultra-short notice #blameGACKT
The wonderful
khysmet made covers for seven individual books and I updated everyone with the designs in a
follow up post where people tried to guess which was which.
Let's start by answering that...
Top left - yellow and black - JON
Inspired by the detail on his forearm tattoo
Second from left - sakura - YOU
Yes, this could probably have been GACKT's, but YOU takes such wonderful photos and has a talent for capturing nature and food and nothing is more beautiful than sakura trees in full bloom.
Third from left - blue - GACKT
The fan and the circular wire pieces are actually 3-D so it's the most elaborate of the books and the fan is very traditionally Japanese. Tradition, culture and slightly OTT. That's GACKT, right?
Top right - pink animal print - CHACHAMARU
If you didn't guess this one then get out of my LJ!!
Bottom left - mosaic and R2-D2 - u:zo
u:zo likes to add odd filters to his photos and is a Jedi Master so this is pretty obvious!
Bottom middle - green - SHINYA
SHINYA has a great style in his clothing choices - quite modernly traditional. That's the theme of his book.
Bottom right - black and silver - TAKUMI
I guess this is slightly GACKT-ish too. TAKUMI wears a lot of black and silver, his guitar straps have quite traditonally rock designs and despite his sweet adorableness on Nico Raji, his style is more heavy rock than the rest of the band so we ran with the black and silver theme.
Every message that was sent was included in the books. Even those that came nearly two days late. They were all collated for each member, printed onto different coloured paper and then cut out and stuck into the message books during my free time at work (the reaction of the people I work with when I explained what I was doing with all of these different messages was hysterical. They all think I'm nuts anyway, now they know I am).
On the day of the show, me,
khysmet and
nightangel_jai spent over an hour decorating the inside of the books with stickers and stamps. They looked something like this -
and were dropped into the present boxes.
We had messages from countries including United States, Canada, UK, France, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Spain, Poland, Mexico, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Singapore... and those are just the ones I can remember from the top of my head! I included a list of them in the books, and also a brief introduction in both English and (my crappy) Japanese.
But, the band don't have them yet. I spoke to JON at the
fade show yesterday, and he explained that they aren't getting the gifts until next week, probably. I ended up explaining basically the whole project to him and he seemed really thankful so I hope they can all get their hands on them!
Thanks to everyone who sent in messages at such short notice. It can be difficult to think of what to say, but everyone did such a good job. Each member received such wonderful messages and even if they can't understand every word that's written, I'm sure the thoughts and feelings of the international fans can steal reach them.
