Title: Breakfast
Fandom: Harry Potter
Pairing: Remus Lupin/Nymphadora Tonks
Rating: PG
Summary: ...I promised I would be nice.
Notes: Y'all know how I feel about this pairing, but it's for Erica, who really needs the love right now. There was going to be art to go with it, but it died. Curse you, Flash. Curse you.

Remus had never been one for breakfast. His friends could attest to it, if any of them were still alive to do such a thing. He just couldn't stomach food in the morning. If he really felt like it, he'd have a cup of tea, maybe one triangle of toast. But nothing more substantial.

This drove Tonks, who had always been a firm believer in breakfast, absolutely mental.

"Fresh squeezed orange juice and I've put a rasher of bacon on. Want cheese on your eggs?"

Remus barely glanced up over his copy of The Daily Prophet. Tonks was standing there by the stove in an oversized and very purple shirt and purple-and-yellow striped socks. Nothing else. Her hair, its usual fine magenta color, was standing out at odd ends and her eyes were a vibrant turquoise today.

"I don't eat breakfast, Dora, you know that."

She made a face, picking up a glass of orange juice from the counter. "You should."

"I'm not hungry in the morning, therefore I see no reason to try and choke down food," he retorted.

Tonks crossed the kitchen floor of their tiny flat carefully, not wanting to slip on the floor. "Remus, you're the boniest man I know. Not eating breakfast is detrimental to your health."

"Thank you, Madam Pomfrey," he deadpanned, turning the page. Looks like Puddlemere was out of the playoffs again this season. Shame, really.

Tonks put a hand on his shoulder. "What would Sirius say if he knew you weren't eating breakfast?"

"He'd promise to pick me up a muffin later and then ask if I wanted to go prank Snape before class."

The young Auror widened her eyes, pouted her lips, and perched herself on the man's knee. "Please, Remus? For me? I spent all morning making this lovely breakfast and..."

The smoke alarm in their tiny apartment started screaming as the stench of burning bacon filled the kitchen. Forgetting Tonks was in his lap, Remus pushed the chair away from the table to get at the grease fire, knocking the chair and the both of them over. Tonks yelped and rolled to her feet, pulling her wand out from Merlin-knows-where and Banishing the mess. Remus sighed, righting the chair and going back to his paper. Tonks picked up her juice glass up off the counter, grabbed a bowl and a box of cereal from the cupboard, and sat down at the table.

"Bloody buggering..." she grumbled, her hair turning a dour shade of slimy green.

Remus set down his paper, pushing the cereal box aside. He leaned over and kissed Tonks gently, curling a rough hand into her slime-green hair. "Get dressed, Dora, I'll take you out for breakfast this morning. I think I'm feeling a bit peckish after all."

Tonks grinned. It was going to be a very good day.

...I still hate this pairing...
