Because most of you who IM me to "catch up" but don't quite have the time, here's my midterm review for your leisurely reading pleasure.
OMgomgomg how's classes!: Slow. Not entirely bad though. At first I thought it just plain sucked because things were so slow, but I've come to appreciate certain aspects in each class.
CS101: Even though the class is horribly simple, it's still kind of fun I guess to chat with the teacher, never have to study, and ace the test. Linda O'Hara (the prof) is great.
Women Studies: I love this class simply because the prof is amazing. If you OSUers need a good, easy DPD requirement class, take WS classes from Amy Leer-Beyerlin. She is so fucking awesome. I could go on forever about her though. In short, whereas I originally hated the topic and never wanted to take a WS class again, I'm now scheduled to take the next WS class from Amy in the Winter term, and her Sex and the City class in the Spring.
Recording Arts: I still hate Mondays. The quizzes are less than awesome. I even study for this class (mind you the night before and morning of, but still). Easy concepts, nitpicky questions. The projects are fun, but I really want more hands on course material. Read quiz read quiz read quiz project.
HHS: I lied. There is nothing to appreciate about this class yet.
Film Study: I love it. I'm taking the next class in the series. The prof is great.
How's your roommate??!: Tolerable I suppose. So far she has left two notes on my laptop which I receive when I come back for lunch, stating that the noise levels in the room at night/morning are intolerable, and there is no point trying to sleep through them. Guess what bitch. If I have to print an essay, it's either in the night, or morning, and I'll be damned if I'm going to wait on printing just to accomodate your 12hr sleeping schedule. I could rant more but I won't. For the most part I really don't care. It's just irritating when I do actually try to be quiet, and she has issues. Moral of the story is "don't try" and everyone wins, or at least the people that matter win.
Are you having fun? No.
Do you miss home?: No. Home and school both have their equal disadvantages and advantages. From home I miss my piano, speaker system, movies, tv, and large amount of space to live in, not to mention my own room where I can sing/scream my heart out, and um, other things. School is nice because there is no family stress, I don't have to play peace maker, and no one's nagging me to do anything. I actually get a good deal of respect here as a fairly organized, "on the ball" student.
What are you majoring in?: Up until recently, today actually, I didn't really have an answer because of the large amount of footwork I had to do in trying to talk to various people. Advisors are great... for telling you what they don't know, and where the head of a department is. Ideally for a career I'd like to do audio work in the Trent Reznor fashion - minus the drugs, booze, and heroine overdose. I'd actually like to do more than what he did/does, but that's probably the best example regarding self-production and engineering. I'd also like to produce for other groups as well, and eventually just swim in my loads of money that I'll be making, and as Mr. Richard Burgess states "earn enough money to buy a small island to retire to." There is absolutely no career path for this though, hence the lots of footwork in researching and making contacts. My recording class is limited, so I have to look elsewhere for audio training. Currently I'm discussing my situation with a L.A. Recording Arts school. It's one of the top in the nation, and they're located on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, so they've got a lot of big connections and experience with the big business. In short though, I'm double majoring in New Media Communications and Computer Science. If all goes well, I'll also be interning/going to an audio school during the summer in either Seattle or L.A. That's still a work in progress though... I'll find out more after I talk to the head of the CS department.
I think that covers most of it. Overall it's not a horrible experience. I just need to get the right connections, classes, and projects going.
Current Happy Thought: There's a recording of the NIN performance at the Voodoo Fest (New Orleans part), in its entirity, on VH1.com. <3
