i had the singular misfortune to have to visit the emergency room at the local Catholic hospital. gastrointestinal distress, nothing life threatening. (yet)
the nurse that gets the medical history was a very nice man. i do not remember his name tho, mores the pity.
the doctor was nice as well. he has a hint of a scottish brogue. very nice to talk to. (i love accents) he at least attempted to lighten a tense and uncomfortable exam. 9as is always the case when the doctor says, 'now why the hell don't they put the lubricant out in the pelvic exam room,' and 'don't worry, i have rather smallish hands.')
then came the tests. blood tests. which almost always results in "make pro feel like a damned pincushion time." i have the misfortune to have inherited viens that do NOT like to be punctured. they roll, make valves, and other strange things to avoid being useful for blood extraction or i.v. lines. thank the lord and lady they ony had two misses before getting a good line. (my record is 7 sticks)
the first nurse was nice, but lacked confidence and skill. she failed her attempt and went off to get another nurse. she was, brusk. she didn't even try to chat, or tell me her name or anything. her adornments belied her religion as Catholic. her second try was the good one. two bubbles in the line. if i die, you'll all know why.
then came the saline drip and the 500 ml of contrast liquid i had to choke down, followed by 2 hours of waiting to get the CT scan. i admire my radiologist very much. very professsional.
then came about an hour or two of waiting for the results. the nurse who brought me that and my discharge papers was the nicest of the bunch. she had three-pointed celtic knots hanging from her ears and a five-pointed star and crescent moon pendant on a silver chain around her neck. i knew she was of the path, but something told me not to let on that i am too. completely unexpected, that, a witch working in the Catholic hospital. lol.
i got sent home with meds to calm my intestines. they don't know what's wrong with me. that was my thursday night. friday i spent mostly in bed. and on a mostly liquid diet.
saturday i was able to get simple starches down without a problem. but i overdid it by going out with the fam to the whale of a sale. ginormous yardsale put on by the junior league. its massive. not much in my size tho. i did find two pair of jeans for work a backpack for my nxt trip to see thorin and a lower heeled pair of bitch boots just in time for winter.
we also went to the craft store, goodwill and walmart. i spent the night hunched in a small ball because of pain. (colitis.... not as bad as kidney stones, almost as bad as childbirth..... but at least kidneystones pass and one has the option to get an epidural for childbirth.)
sunday was better. monday was better still. today at work i didn't hurt till nearly quitting time
