The bear mech enters Pyro's and halts just few steps inside the door for a quick glance around. It doesn't have the same familiar, welcoming feel that he used to associate with Maccadam's Oil Bar, but it still looks like a pretty good spot for a drink and a chat. Glancing down the way, he notes a table towards the back that will likely be a ( Read more... )

Wheeljack had been giving much thought to his response to Ratchet's last comments when the group of mechs entered. He stared at the furred shells, intrigued -- if he had a mouth it would have been gaping. He continues to watch the tiger and brown bear as they settle on the floor, computing the earlier comment from Catilla about Chainclaw controlling his "shell".

He acknowledges Catilla's apology somewhat absently while leaning back to stare at the shells under the table. "Not a problem. It's good to see comrades be reunited." He then leans to the side to watch as Chainclaw's shell sniffs him and is about to say that it was also not a problem when he remembers animal instincts about certain types of entities. He draws his leg away a little. "Er, so, do they have built in instincts, or is it completely through your own sensory input? Are they remote controlled or is it like a secondary consciousness? Can you transfer between them and your regular bodies?" He quickly forgets his concern as questions continue to bubble up in his processor. Fortunately, he holds back the tide of curiosity until his first few are answered.

"These are the two I mentioned before who were the successful ones in that little experiment. Catilla--" Ratchet nods towards the mech in company of the tiger shell before nodding at the other mech present, who is still eying his bear shell "--and Chainclaw. I rigged up a modified Skyspy to scan for organic life forms and it ended up over the Portland zoo. Made a few adjustments for Catilla so he'd get the saber-toothed look. The shells are meant to be like portable CR chambers that can hide the guys when they're worn down or injured; each one has its own programming and what you might call built in instinct. They don't need their 'owners' to get around and make decisions, but they're not on par with regular bots in terms of intelligence, either."

It's about then the waiter comes back with Catilla's drink, which he accepts with a smile and a nod before turning his attention back to the conversation. "It takes a while to get used to, I'll say that much. You might say it is like having a secondary consciousness, since both of us are always at least mildly aware of our surroundings through two sets of sensor arrays. We can turn it off, but we prefer not to since that defeats the point of having it. It doesn't really infringe that much on our ability to stay focused, though."

Chainclaw, still fidgeting with the coaster, nods in agreement. "We usually recharge in our shells, too. It's just safer that way, no matter where we are. But we do kinda like riding around on them, too. Heh, there's no real point to it... It's just something we decided to try one time."
