Day 11: Your siblings, in great detail

Oct 08, 2010 17:41

I only have one sibling, a sister. She is 22 years old, six years my junior. Her name is Jackie, but she spells it Jaci now. We are not close. We don’t have very much in common. She is currently going to Ball State, majoring in theater. She is slated to graduate in December, but it is not a guarantee. She is over 100,000 dollars in debt towards her chosen degree. In my opinion, that is crazy. That much money could buy a HOUSE.

My sister is appropriately enough, very dramatic. She is a pathological liar, but not in a dangerous way. More of a constant stream of little white lies kind of thing. Physically, she doesn’t look much like me. She is about 6 inches shorter and, well, bigger. Truth be told, I worry about her weight. She has steadily gained weight for the last several years, which may be a by-product of being in a relationship with a much bigger man.

I probably could have been nicer to my sister when we were younger and I lived at home with her. In standard big-sister fashion, I was mean to her and generally viewed her as an annoyance. For a long time she looked up to me, but she would get mad at me for having friends and boyfriends when she didn’t really have many herself. I stuck up for her publicly, stopped people from teasing her and tried to give her pointers on how to make friends. But as much as she looked/looks up to me, she never takes my advice. She asks for it, but doesn’t follow it.

I worry about my sister a lot. She also infuriates me. She has no post-college plan even though she is supposed to graduate in two months. I hope I can find a way to help/guide her without giving her an easy way out. I hope she can find a way to grow up, I guess.
