La Computadora Nueva...

So I made use of the employee purchase program at Intechra and picked up a new laptop, since I've never had one. It's a Dell XPS 1330, check it out here:

It's equipped with a 2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB of RAM, 128MB video ram (I think it's the nVidia 8400 card, and not integrated video), 250 GB hard drive (unsure if it's the 5200 RPM drive or the 7200 rpm drive with free-fall shutoff sensor), Slot loading DVD+-RW, and a bunch of interesting shit like biometric fingerprint scanner, bluetooth/wi-fi master on/off switch, and webcam, which again I'm unsure if it's the 2.0 MP piece that comes with standard display, or VGA that accompanies the ultra thin LED backlit display. On the Dell site, it priced out at 1200 bucks. I got mine for 355 out the door in as refurbished, hard drive wiped clean condition. Not bad at all.

Cool thing is that this thing is the size of a big book, and nearly matches the specs of my desktop machine, all in a tiny, lightweight package. It originally came with Vista, but I've been trying to install XP (lighter, faster) on it. The problem is that Dell support XP on this model, and doesn't offer XP drivers either. The workaround seems to be locating drivers for XP from the chipset manufacturers and from other Dell models which use the same pieces that come with XP.

More updates when/if I get it working right.
