Greetings From Sunny Montebello, CA

Surely the news has circulated by now - I moved to Montebello (east LA) 3 days ago, where I'll hopefully be living for awhile. My appologies to everybody to which this comes as a surprise - though I had a quiet exit in mind, I intended to go around and see everybody before I left, but got mixed up in the mad scramble to get it all together. April fools, I guess? Just know that none of the means of communication have changed and I'll be back to Antioch every couple months.

There's not as much a reason why, as why not. With the discontinuation of my job at Recover Care, I came to realize that I could get another job in the yay area, or I could find a job in LA all the same. I'm about 5 years late to move out, and I've always wanted to give living in LA a try. I saw my chance and jumped for it before I could convince myself not to. So far, so good.

I'm currently job hunting, but between unemployment and a chunk put aside in savings just for this purpose, I should be good to go even if it takes awhile until I land a job. Worst case scenario, I can pack it up and return home no worse for wear.

So far, this place is awesome - I have full utilities as part of the deal, washer, dryer, full kitchen, and we're in a gated community that so far has been chill and low key. I'm within walking distance of food, a movie theater, stores, etc and within biking distance of damn near anything. Fry's electronics is 5 minutes away, and it's only 20 minutes to Hollywood or Westwood, where there's endless stuff to do. Hell, even if there weren't so many things to do, there's this positive vibe here in SoCal, dunno how to explain it. Sorta like this feeling that there's always something good going on. It's inspiring.

Anyways, that's the story. As I said before, this ain't goodbye - I'll likely return every couple months or so as I still have my family, my friends, my boat, and good home cooked meals to return to.
