Its 8:43 in the P.M.... do you know where your children are? No, seriously... Today was decent. As per my usual Wednesday schedule, I didn't have to be at the school until 2:30 for Stage Combat. Remember, on Mondays I also have Acting Shakespeare from 11AM-2PM. Unfortunately, we didn't get to meet this week because of Labor Day. You know, I think its unintelligent of them to have one-day-a-week classes on Mondays because there are so many Monday holidays. If we met on Wednesdays, it wouldn't be a problem because I can't think of any Wednesday-specific holidays, can you?
When I went to school yesterday, I checked the cast lists for the two shows for this semester and found out I wasn't in either, which was disappointing, though not terribly surprising. Its funny; when they planned out this semester, they planned it for the smallish group we had LAST semester. They decided to do two shows (instead of three), both with relatively small casts. Unfortunately, at the start of the semester, people crawled out of the woodwork and we now have this huge group for a total of twelve parts.
So anyway, in SC, we learned how to do two types of jabs, roundhouses, uppcuts and two types of chokes (from the front and from behind). That was fun. Afterwards, I was talking with Tom, the technical director about what tech crews I wanted to work. When I mentioned sound, I think he put me in charge of it for Reckless! That is really cool.
Yesterday, Anthony invited me to a party this Friday. Its a costume party and the theme is "Good and Evil." My plan so far was to go as a "good-cop/bad-cop," like split down the middle. I was thinking I would get a police-looking uniform and have one side ripped and macho-looking, the other not. I'll shave one side of my face. I'll have one side of my hair down, the other back. If I can scavenge some old glasses and sunglasses, I can cut them in half and put them together. That'll be really cool.
Speaking of Anthony, apparently he isn't taking not being in either show very well. He has a lot of talent and he's really good-looking, but to quote my friend Aaron Vaughn, "As Anthony the person he is usually pretty nice but as Anthony the actor, he's just, well, an asshole." He's been here for like 4 years and almost always gets the lead. In fact, I think this is the first time he hasn't been in at least one show in a semester. Anyway, he didn't take the news well. Word around the green room is that he is flat-out dropping all his theatre classes, including Practicum (I didn't see him in SC today which emphasizes that theory). He's probably even going to step down as president for Delta Psi Omega, which is really going to make him unpopular. Basically, he's pouting. Its the kind of thing that has a lot of us really disappointed in him, but maybe not exactly surprised, though we're surprised we're not surprised. Thats how I feel anyway.
Tonight we had some friends from New Orleans over for dinner. They used to go to Hope until they moved. They're a family of four. Dad teaches at the Seminary in New Orleans. I say teaches because he still has a job, he just isn't teaching RIGHT NOW. Anyway, either the shool or his wife's employer (I can't remember which) is putting them up in a hotel for the next month. After that, they're going to find a place to rent, because they're going to be here for several months. It was fun getting to see them again, though I got a little, "last time I saw you you were so many feet shorter" etc.
