I have a new language teacher. I definitely prefer her to my old one. Instead of random grammar drill for two hours we had discussions about the use of tenses and how and why to use them to express different concepts. Good stuff.
It rained today for the first time since I've gotten here. It was actually kind of nice. Much better than that ridiculous heat wave we had two weeks ago. 100 degrees for 4 days straight! Unbelievable.
We're studying the Rossini opera Cenerentola in music history - that's Cinderella for all of you anglophones. My professor is really fantastic. You don't have to understand any of the words to get the story of an opera, the way he teaches is pretty amazing. My English is shit, I know Amanda.
While my lit class is a joke, the book we are reading is not. It's called La Coscienza di Zeno (Zeno's Conscience), by Italo Svevo. He writes in a style similar to Virginia Woolf, (and I don't mean my wife) he does things like use irrelevant objects to tell the story at hand. It's very interesting. A lot of the students say it's too difficult, but it's really not, they are lazy. The reason the class is a joke is because there are 100 of us and the professor doesn't know how to handle it.
So I never described Palazzo Gallenga...it's the building in which I have all of my classes. It's an 18th century palace donated by the Gallenga family...the ceilings are all painted, there are status everywhere, stained glass windows in the hallways and the symbol of Perugia, the Griffin, is all over the place. From the outside, it's a big red building with white Roman columns. I feel like I'm studying during the Renaissance.
Tomorrow I head for Le Marche. More updates to come. Oh, and my pictures from Florence are up on facebook.
Buona serata a tutti.
