rl update: school & job stuff

This past weekend was very good. I actually got out of the house a lot, and was treated(?) to the spectacle of Green Jello + midget wrestling. See nicofiend's journal if you want the details.

Overall, things are actually going really well for me. Summer term ends in a few more weeks, and I'm keeping up with my homework load really well. Recently I had to write a short essay for my East Asian Culture class, and I only got an 88 on it. Pooh. I was hoping for an A, but I was also pretty nervous when I wrote/submitted the paper. It's been so incredibly long since I had to last write a college-level essay that I'm not surprised I was rusty. The next paper for that class, though, I had better ace. For it, we have to watch one of ten Asian films and write about Confucianism/Daoism/Buddhism in the film. Oh darn, what a shame. How ever shall I cope. And since, you know, it's so hard to choose a film, I'll just have to watch several again and choose one. :D (Is it sad that I've seen 5/10 films on the list, and own 3 of them?)

Calculus & astronomy are, of course, cakewalks, and I'm very very pleased with how much calculus I remember. The algebra actually took me longer to recall and get used to than the derivatives did. Then again, the last time I did algebra was over 10 years ago; calculus was only 8 or so, ha.

And ethics rocks. Love the discussions we have in that class, and really love playing devil's advocate, hehehehe. Not that I'm good at that or anything.

As for work -- goddamn, my new job rocks. I can't really call it new anymore, though, since as of this month I've been here a year. It's flown by, and I am so at ease and comfortable (as well as very not-stressed) that it doesn't feel like work some days. Anyway, I had an annual review, where I got a sweet little raise, and my boss told me he didn't really have any points of criticism or things I needed to improve at all. Go me!

Plus next month (RIGHT after finals) I'm going to our main office in the UK for a week! I cannot wait. I'll get a day or two to sightsee, and while I'd like more, I really can't complain about having this awesome opportunity. Not only that, but the cheapest flight to our office right now is through Paris. Soooo we might spend a night there and see the city. I am agog with happiness.

That's pretty much what I've been up to lately, being ridiculously lucky and spoiled. I'll take my life any day. ;)
