At last, we've finally gotten a taste of fall in Houston. It's wet and grey and cool, and out here in the suburbs I've smelled burning leaves a number of times in the past week. Living out of the city proper, the season feels more like how I remember it being in Illinois. I grew up in various suburbs there, and driving home last night, seeing the various homes with their small golden lamps on, reflecting in the full ditches and the wet, leaf-covered yards, I felt almost like I'd gone back in time ten years. It was a pleasant nostalgia.
We're settling into the new house quite well. RenFest is coming up, which always indicates autumn to me, and I've got the first piece of my Halloween costume. It's easy to put together, and I'm looking forward to using it as an an excuse to chop off a great deal of my hair. Now to plan the party-route!
Speaking of parties (sort of), I got a letter from a bead shop in the Heights. They've moved to a new location and are having a little reopening deal all weekend. I'd like to hit it Saturday at some point, and I know some of you on my flist might be interested. I've only done a little jewelry creation -- two necklaces for my mom -- but it's a creative outlet, which I need more of, and the results are pretty. I can dig pretty. Shiny, too.
Who knows -- if I get up early enough, I could even hit the T'efia (sp?) market, and make a little day of it. Possibilities...
