So woah, I just had this ginormous wave of nostalgia hit me, and I've gone on a Back-In-The-Day-When-I-Was-In-NJROTC binge.
Turns out the only video on YouTube is of last year's Armed Exhibition Drill Team's half assed and extremely painful to watch routine. And it was OBVIOUSLY at Pass In Review (which was a HUGE deal) and if they were that bad at the END of the season, I don't think I care to know how heinous they were at the Drill Meets.
Also turns out the only Facebook group is one for members from the late 80's and early 90's, though they did have a pic of the Armed Exhibition Team from my Freshman year (which is the only year I wasn't actually ON that team, even though I knew everybody and was at every practice watching...) and a pic of the bunch I met as Juniors when they were Freshman (which was cause for many giggles)
I also hit up the old website, which is still updated every week with the happenings of Cougar Company, and I discovered there's a Drill Meet this weekend, which I am totally thinking about crashing. Though if the video of last year's team is any indication, I'm pretty sure it will be a painful thing for me to watch, seeing as I was a member of Drill Teams that actually took drill seriously and were the winningest teams in the state for all my years of high school. Seriously, those four years Service was the best of the best, nigh unbeatable, one year, we actually drove out the competition! They wouldn't compete against us! I bet I can still out-drill any of those kiddies...though my rifle twirling may be a bit rusty.
Also on the website are all the old promotion tests and study tests for things like the Chain of Command and Orders to the Sentry, which I nerded out on for like an hour. Turns out I know nothing about the Chain of Command (which is understandable since it has completely changed since the last time I studied it) and I still know every word of all 11 Orders to the Sentry (which I can't decide is awesome or pathetic) and I also still pretty much know all the rates and ranks, both active and NJROTC (which IS pathetic, no debate there) Wow, I remember dumb stuff...
But whatever, it was a huge part of my life, and probably what kept me on the straight and narrow in high school, so I'm grateful and proud of my years as a ROTC-NAZI. I think I shall go dig up more pictures now...
