Costume plans!

Sep 21, 2009 09:12

Okay folks, it's time to prepare for Dragon*Con, and I've got a fun idea for a costume group. The theme is Steampunk Fairy Tales. It just seems to fit together, because they're the kind of stories that would still be around in a Neo-Victorian society.

While originally we were talking about doing this group for D*C 2010, I think it should be doable for 2009 as well. If we pick up a few more for next year, that's cool too. :D

Costume ideas so far:

pyro_ike- Lupe Garou, The Big Bad Wolf. Dresses like a gentleman, but that's offset by pointed ears, fangs, and a wicked claw device on one hand. Also, wicked mutton chops.

lycorne- Swan Maiden. A white feather robe on one side, a clockwork wing on the other.

asatira- Little Red Riding Hood
I need a companion for my Big Bad Wolf, but other than the red cloak/cape it's free reign. In my head, she seems like she could have more of an 'early aviator' style, with flight cap and goggles, and probably oil stains on her cloak. A hatchet or raygun would probably look pretty awesome too.

micarei- Cinderella
Fake soot on costume. Can go with something chimney sweep, maid, or princess inspired. Wear one fancy shoe & one regular. (Or have one foot bare. Or just carry a singular fancy shoe.) Maybe carry a broom or something?

scottishfae- Blue Fairy from "Pinnochio"
Blue steampunk dress. Fairy wings. Carry some sort of puppet or doll with an exaggerated nose.

sarahtothe3rd- Belle of Beauty and the Beast fame.
Simplest would be to do a steampunk take on the famous yellow Disney dress. She would also be a good candidate for some gadgetry, as her father was a mad inventor!

eveshka- Puss in Boots
Cat ears and tail. Very noticable boots. (Sword?) -Plenty of Swashbuckley potential. Steampunk-ing the boots would make them more noticeable, especially if you limit the amount of brass on the rest of the outfit.

gardenofatlas- Firebird
From "Tsarevitch Ivan, the Firebird and the Gray Wolf". Reds, yellows and oranges; Clockwork wings in the same color scheme.

mimibean- Snow White
Free design; poisoned apple and seven dwarf-sized automata optional.

- The Little Mermaid
Red hair not required at all if you go trad' fairy tale. Green skirt in perhaps a fishtail bustle skirt style? Lots of chains/jewelry to suggest the "collection" of human memorabilia. A few seashells in the deco are a must. Maybe a sort of pirate-inspired theme to the outfit?

kandascending- Peter Pan
Green suit and a jetpack, probably a good candidate for flight goggles and an aviator cap.

katattack- Princess from "The Frog Prince"
Full creative freedom, just need a toy frog and a golden ball.

wicked0witch and friends- Alice in Wonderland Group Not exactly affiliated, but hopefully we can meet up for some good pictures!

EDIT: If any of you want me to change the description of your claimed character to state the main idea/concept of your costume, let me know and it shall be done.

DOUBLE EDIT: We have attracted the attention of kissmythistle, head of the new Historical Fiction Track! Details of the program that encompasses Steampunk, Pirates and all sorts of time travel can be found here.

(Other ideas, mostly reposted from lycorne)

Rapunzel
Again, full creative freedom. Just need to manage excessive amounts of hair.
-Or, a gadget that looks like crazy-long hair, with wig strands holding down the gears

The Girl Without Hands
Free design. Clockwork/mechanical silver hands.

Aladdin
Arabian inspired outfit. Carry a lamp. (Conversely, could do a steampunk rendition on a genie.)

The Genie
Could be awesome as some kind of robot. He'll perform any 3 tasks you wish, but then you have to use the lamp to recharge him!

Rumplestilzkin
Scraggledy hair/beard, and some kind of spinning wheel/steam machine as a backpack. Maybe have a bin with straw on one side, and yellow/gold thread on the other.

Any other ideas are totally welcome. I'm leaving this public so people can jump in with suggestions or claims.
