NAME: Hiei ( 飛影 Flying Shadow ) aka Jaganshi Hiei (Jaganshi is a surname used for Hiei's Jagan. It translates literally to The Evil Eye Master or Master of the Evil Eye)
SERIES: Yu Yu Hakusho
TIMELINE: Post Series
AGE: 16-99 years old. From the perception of Yukina being between those ages. Hiei is her twin so he would most likely be about the same age. She has yet to hit puberty and so does Hiei. Hence...the age analyzing.
HEIGHT: 5'3" by artbook standards stating that he and his friends had grown throughout the series even though it wasn't mentioned in the manga or anime it was mentioned in the artbook. reference wiki for proof! 4'10" as mentioned by Juri only with the fact that his hair added the extra inch or so. I'm seriously not making this up XD
APPEARANCE:
Standing roughly about 4'10" 5'3" Hiei is quite short. He's almost always seen dressed in a lot of black coloured clothing with his white scarf and white bandanna covering his Jagan. He always has his cloak on unless he's in the middle of fighting in which he loses that and the muscle shirts he wears under the cloak. He also wears rather baggy comofortable pants with combat boots or sometimes Chinese Styled shoes. Other times he's seen having bandages wrapping up his ankles to below his knees. He almost always either has a multiple belts on his pants or a piece of coloured fabric tying it together. In the Dark Tournament he was seen wearing Chinese Styled Robes that are quite similar to Kurama's. There are also references in the Anime/Manga pictures and others where he dresses rather casually. Sometimes with ripped jeans and more coloured muscle shirts or with loos shirts over. Other times he's actually wearing a vest and a complete outfit with dark combat boots. He almost always has his right hand or both of his hands wrapped up in bandages. Mostly his right because of the fact that he keeps his Black Dragon Tattoo from being noticed if it isn't hidden under his large cloak. He has his sword always with him and no one knows where he hides it. It just comes out at strangely random times.

BACKGROUND:
Hiei was born on the floating Iceland in the Makai, known to have only females, and the female youkais hearts were cold as ice, thus why they live in the cold. He was born a cursed child, a half fire and a half Koorime. The villagers seeing that he is a cursed child, decides to throw him over the island to the world below. The reason for his cursed being, they sealed him in talismans and strange writings to keep his power concealed his large flaring fiery youki. His mother, Hina had begged the elders not to throw her child over the floating island, with tears spilled and the frail attempt to try and take her children and leave. In the end Hiei was thrown over the island by his mother's best friend Ruri (Ri) and given the very tear gem his mother cried when he was born. The village elders ushered a dear friend of Hina's, Ruri had cast the young infant over the Floating Koorime Country, and whispered that she would wait for the boy's revenge.

A large number of Makai bandits a group of youkai mercenaries it seems found him while on their mission. They raised him and taught him how to fight and defend himself. Though through the passing of time, the bandits couldn't stand his attitude and shunned him from the very group that was the closest thing to family. Hiei then wandered alone in the Makai and killed as many as he could that was in his way, the tear gem was visible, as he wore it on his neck. He fought more and more youkais, and becoming stronger and faster. In one of his battles Hiei had lost his tear gem, while fighting a youkai near a cliff, the youkai cut off the gem and it fell into the river below the cliff. Now, though, Hiei had two objectives: find his tear gem, and the Ice Nation that tossed him over Makai to die.

Hiei found out that it was impossible to find either now since he had lost his tear gem. He was eager to find what was his, and sought out the man who can implant the third eye, and is also known as the evil eye. He went to find a man by the name of Shigure. Once he had found the man, he requested the implantation of the Jagan. At first Shigure had denied him, but for a price for implanting the eye, he were to tell the man his story, his reason for the implantation. Hiei agreed. Shigure said the operation would be dangerous, and painful. In the process the pain would be agonizing, and his power that he gained throughout the years would be decreased. Hiei was willing to do that to find the two things most important to him. Shigure also gave a proposal, even if Hiei would find his twin, he wasn't allowed to tell her that he was her brother, or unpleasant things could happen. The boy said that he had no intention of telling his twin anyways. Agreeing to that, the fire youkai went through the painful surgery, and the pain was so agonizing, he would let out his own ear-shattering scream. When the operation was done, he had lost almost all of his youkai power. The operation was successful nonetheless. Shigure asked the Koorime to stay for another day and teach him some of his Swaggerer's techniques. It was a sort of like away to help Hiei defend himself during the time that he was too weak to fight other youkais. From there, Hiei set out and searched with little power her had, but gained something more valuable, the Jagan.

Now given a new power, Hiei was capable of finding the very Koorime Country that had abandoned him and condemned on his death. When he reached the country, high about the Makai lands, the Country had become a ghost town, since no one dare speak to him. The Cursed Koorime was a feared fire youkai, and he would continue to walk along the ghost country, and found Ruri. Ruri did not know who Hiei was at first, but not until he started asking questions about the forbidden infant that was cast out of the Country. Ruri led the boy to the tomb of Hina, his mother, and explained to the fire youkai that she had committed suicide after the loss of her son. Ruri told the Fire youkai that the Forbidden child's sister; Yukina had left the Koorime Country to search for her lost twin brother, hoping that he was alive. When he found out more about his sister, he was obligated to find her, and after he had started to walk away from Ruri, saying nothing, but then the woman realized whom Hiei really was, and fell down on her knees and begged for forgiveness. He had no intention of killing her, and he soon found that the hearts of the Koorime's here were as cold as the snow that fell on their country. He left, without the bother to kill her.

His search for his twin sister had become a more important objective than it was before. On his search for his sister, Yukina, the fire youkai had reached the Ningenkai (Human Realm). Upon his search, he had met up with a youkai who had taken human form. He was called Kurama. They clashed weapons and leaving Hiei injured, Kurama tended to his wounds. In the end the fight was a misunderstanding. Not long after their meeting, Hiei had teamed up with Kurama and another youkai by the name of Gouki; they raided the volts of Reikai and stole the artifacts of darkness. When in a quarrel, he had met up with Yusuke, for the first time as well. He got involved with the spirit detectives, and soon set out on the first mission, to hunt down and destroy the Four Saint Beasts. Once after that, Hiei had become involved in saving a certain youkai from the grasp of the greedy ningen. That was where he met up with Yukina for the first time, though it was up close, compared to his faint meeting, before when he was afraid to show himself to her. Of course, Yukina had no idea who he was and the Koorime found it easier, at least he was able to watch her and protect her.

He then got involved in the Ankoku Bujutsukai, alongside with Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara. That was when the Koorime also learned and able to control his Jao Ensatsu Ken techniques, and mastering the strongest of the three, the Jao Ensatsu Koukuryuuha. His right arm was rendered useless for part of the tournament, but when he got closer to the fight with Bui, and swallowing [absorbing] the Koukuryuuha, Hiei was able to gain extra speed and strength for a short amount of time. After that, he was hibernating, while they repaired the stadium for the next fight. Upon waking up and asked about how long he slept, Hiei uttered out that won then? He soon learned that the fight was delayed, because of the mass destruction that he had caused using his Koukuryuuha in his fight with Bui. Together the group defeated Sakyou's team and headed home with a great victory. Perhaps, maybe he had learned something about companionship and friendship. Soon, Hiei had grown weary of fighting for the Ningenkai.

A short time after the Ankoku Bujutsukai, Yusuke was kidnapped by three high school students, and they left a note saying that among the people that were taken to that mansion on the hill, Hiei, Kurama, and Kuwabara must be among the group. Hiei refused to join in on it at first, but with the choice of his sentence being cut short and fighting for his freedom, he agreed. In arrogance, he uttered the taboo word in the mansion, allowing his soul to be taken by Yuu Kaitou, a classmate of Kurama's that was give special powers of territory. After given his soul back and saving Yusuke, Koenma came with urgent new, signaling the plan that Sakyou had died with was taken up by someone else, that he was probably rolling in his grave because of that. During that time, Koenma explained to the group about the class of youkais. A's and S Classes were among the strongest. Hiei questioned which class he was classified in by Reikai. Koenma replied with Mid B Class. Being slightly insulted, Hiei dropped out from the mission, claiming the hole to Makai was good for him. That was where he belonged anyway, not with humans. He was not seen for a long time during the search for the psychics and Sensui, a former Reikai Tentai.

He showed himself finally, when Yusuke was escaping the wrath of Hagiri who targeted Yusuke as his territory, so whatever he three at Yusuke, be cars, knives, or house hold items, Yusuke was a moving Target. Hiei saved him from bein shot by Hagiri by sending a sword through his gut. He was intentional to kill him as well. After that Hiei started a fight with Yusuke, and the two tore apart a nearby forest beating the living daylights out of each other with a million punches and kicks until they couldn't punch and kick anymore. Hiei told Yusuke that Ningenkai was starting to smell like Makai. With that he came back to the group as Yusuke predicted, meeting up with the gang at the mouth entrance of the hiding place of Sensui and the hole to Makai. While entering the cave, he and the group were faced with a challenge of Game Master, and had to win the Game that the Game Master proposed. They came out victorious and Yusuke, Hiei, and Kurama, with Mitari entered deeper into the cave. When reaching there, they saw Kuwabara tied together, on a boat, and almost eaten alive by the demons that were trying to get through to the hole.

Kuwabara was finally released, but Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei and Mitari were stuck in Itsuki's territory, and were forced to watch the fight with Yusuke and Sensui, while Sensui was killing Yusuke off. When Yusuke finally died, Kuwabara was able to cut the territory but it was too late, he was dead. Angered by their companion's death, the group, grew stronger, that included Hiei who surged with his own power leveling up to a powerful A Class. Seeking revenge on Sensui for his friend's death. When they reached Sensui, Kuwabara cut the net that kept the A class and S class demons from entering, and allowed Hiei and Kurama to follow right after. Though, three of them wasn't enough to defeat Sensui, who was considered a very high level human. With their last ounce of energy, the they wanted to destroy Sensui, but almost taken to their own death, Yusuke appears as living, and mentions something about his heart not beating. For some reason, it took a moment of pausing and relief was on Hiei's face as he laughed, rather cheerfully, for the first, and only time in the series. Then after that something new came up.

Then something interesting came up. Hiei had been giving an invitation to return to the Makai. That meant that he had to leave the Ningenkai. Right before he left, however, Yukina confronts him and gives him her tear gem. She asked him a simple favor of finding the fire youkai that was her brother, who had the same one and tell him that his sister was waiting for him.

Though the face that Yukina had showed, Hiei found something else in his heart, and that it was the gem he was looking for. He said some cold things towards his sister, telling her what if her brother died, she would never know. Though finding the ice country and slaying it, Hiei told Yukina to do it herself. The ice maiden shocked by his words, felt sad for a moment, before saying that it was a kind of advice that she would be receiving from an older brother. With that Hiei left for the Makai, knowing that he didn't need to live for anything else, his life was fulfilled to its fullest. When he was on his way to Mukuro's territory, he was confronted with five hundred and possibly more A class youkais. Hiei had used his Koukuryuuha and slain almost half of them, and with that he used his Katana to kill the many as well. Hiei was loosing consciousness fast, and passed out for a short amount of time, before Youkais decided to take advantage of that and attacked him.

He killed them easily with his Katana. Then Mukuro appeared before the cursed Emiko. She said she would give Hiei back what is his, and show her true form behind the tacky clothes and the sheets of paper and spells. The Emiko (Imiko?) had no interest in becoming the woman's right hand man, and he found what he was looking for, Yukina, and the Koorime Island, as well as the gem. He accepted the match anyways. He had never expected to be fighting the very man that had taught him some of his sword skills, as well as giving him the Jagan. The match was very serious. Hiei and the known Doctor that implanted his eye, Shigure fought to the death. In the end Hiei had one, slicing Shigure's head in two horizontally, and he died instantly.

Hiei though, had one missing arm and a large wound in his gut. Mukuro congratulated him for his victory, and Hiei said he welcome death, and passed out. The woman did not want him to die just yet, saying it wasn't his time, stuck him in a machine, to regenerate his strength. She then revealed herself to him fully. After his resurrection, Hiei and Mukuro set out and Hiei found his old comrades, Kurama and Yusuke. Then Yusuke demanded a tournament. Whoever wins this tournament gains total control of the Makai to do as they pleased. It was a one on one match, and Hiei participated in it. In the end he lost, but he put up a good fight against Mukuro. After all the events, Hiei started taking over Mukuro's base and started directing lost Ningens that accidentally stumbled upon Makai back home with their memories erased of ever being there.

ABILITIES:
Demon Speed: Being a demon, Hiei move faster than the human eye and even faster than most demon eyes. His speed is truly remarkable and allows him to create teleporting movements with his speed as well as brief projections of himself to confuse the opponent. He moves so fast that it takes a lot of time and perception for one to be able to pierce him, hence taking longer than it should to scathe him in battle. His speed also adds to the deadliness of his swordsmanship.

Demon Strength: Hiei is physically stronger than he physically appears. He has well toned muscles and abs as well as a slim form for his petite shape. Though, he may physically be lacking here and there, it is clear that his fists and feet could also be deadly weapons. He doesn't usually fight with his fists or feet, but when he does it's quite accurate. Combined with his demonic speed of light, he can cause multiple hits many times in different areas. So if it's a fist fight you want it's a fist fight you'll get.

Immunity: Obviously being half Hi Youkai, Hiei is immune to fire. He quickly absorbs it as it is thrown at him which is the same for both cases with Zeru and his Koukuryuuha. Hiei is a true flame master even if he is a half breed. So to speak, he is immune to fire. He is also part Koorime, giving him the immunity to ice. Even though he does not use ice powers, and never proven canonly that he had any, but Hiei did not freeze to death when Seiryuu tried to freeze him with his ice. It had little or no affect on Hiei as a being whereas it completely got Byakko without a second glance. It is the luck that he is half and half that he was able to withstand a lot before he could be turned to ice or burned to a crisp.

Sword Play: It is his most prized skill and his most used skills. Despite being able to fight with his fists and feet, he is even deadlier when using his sword. Hiei has swung a sword since he was a young toddler, about the age of five, and saw nothing but bloodbaths on his paths. His swordsmanship increased ten fold after his Jagan implant and some tips from the Youkai Surgeon, Shigure. Hiei's sword movements are as fast as his speed. Normal humans cannot see these lightening fast movements and it goes the same for lower level demons. These swift attacks are deadly alone and used multiple times can clearly end an enemy's life. His skills are so great with his sword, he is also able to pierce through flesh of others, and damage no internal organs. EVIDENCE: would be Hagiri, Kaname in which Hiei had 'stabbed' his sword through. The Doctor Kamiya specifically said: "It completely missed every vital organ and muscle. I wouldn't say the sword 'stabbed' you, it really just slipped through. I've treated hundreds of people but I've never seen anything like it." Hiei's swordsmanship is one of a kind. Hiei can create as many as sixteen slashes during his movements. Perhaps it had increased since he fought Seiryuu.

The Jagan Eye (邪眼): Hiei also has an implanted eye called the Jagan on his forehead. It is also known as the Evil Eye.
  • It was implanted in him when he was searching for his lost Hiruiseki stone and the Hyouga tribe, that tossed him over the cliff, hence it's tracking abilities.
  • The Jagan allows him to manipulate Level E humans and Level E demons. Mean very weak demons and humans with very little or no spiritual abilities.
  • He can use them to his advantages as well as read open minds unless there is a mental barrier or an unknown source of power to prevent him from doing so otherwise.
  • The Jagan is often used to lure and assist in summoning the Dragons.
  • Telekinesis is also something he is capable of at certain times. That also includes binding people. It was obvious when Yuusuke tried to overtake Hiei and he used his Jagan's binding abilities to make sure Yusuke was trapped and unmovable.
  • Telepathy is common for those with the Jagan as well.
  • He can also erase memories like hypnosis. It was showed in the last few chapters of the manga when he specifically Jagan eyed a human and fixed his memories and sent him.
Jao Ensatsu Rengoku Shou (邪王炎殺煉獄焦): Or The Blaze-Murdering Purgatory Scorch, a move that summons the lesser 'mundane,' flame of the Ningenkai into one or both of his fists added with his inhuman speed it creates a very faster and unbelievable close range attack that could strike multiple times. The damage isn't as powerful as the others but it will suffice for simple things like destroying solid weapons or punching out giant cement blocks. It works on most demons of any classes really unless they immune to fire punches ahah. Another branch off of this attack is a Flamethrower. He has only used this against Bui and it was proven ineffective but it creates a range attack spiraling. A nice view though.

Jao Ensatsu Ken (邪王炎殺剣): Or The Tyrant King's Blaze-Murdering Sword, an attack that he lures the dark flames of Reikai using his demon energy again and channels it into his sword instead of releasing them completely, making it quite dangerous for the smaller youkai and his body. He has a bit of distaste for this attack because of its close relation to Kuwabara's Rei Ken. Though, as time passes, he is able to manifest the energy into a sword like Kuwabara, but there are differences in Kuwabara's Rei Ken and Hiei's Jao Ensatsu Ken. He used this attack a few times and one time he used it once with his sword as an amplifier and the second time against the opponent he managed to create a sword purely from the Darkness Flame.

Jao Ensatsu Koukuryuuha (邪王炎殺黒龍波): Or The Tyrant King's Blaze-Murdering Black Dragon Wave, and it involves Hiei creating a fire dragon from the Makai using his energy as a lure the flames to him and released in the direction of his target or enemy. The dragon at first cannot be controlled directly once released. As the series continues, he is able to summon the dragon without burning his arm and through the events prior to the Makai Bujutsukai, Hiei is seen to be able to summon multiple dragons to defeat the enemy. This summon is only one after the other.

The Jao Ensatsu Koukuryuuha is known to be one of the strongest attacks in the Yu Yu Hakusho World.

Jao Ensatsu Koukuryuuha (consumption/absorption): It is also considered a very powerful attack, only it isn't used on the enemy but the user. Hiei has done something that no other masters of the Jao Ensatsu Technique tried. He consumed the Koukuryuuha into his body, he becomes the Koukuryuuha and that allows him a moment of power. It allows him to use the power to its peak giving him a moment of limited invincibility. It also raises his defenses greatly and giving him a the boost of leaping rather high in the air resembling a 'Rising Dragon.' As well as he could shoot flames from his hands and engulf himself in flames to jump high in the air. Though as powerful as it is, the consumption of the Koukuryuuha drains his youki relentlessly and Hiei must hibernate in order to regain his youki back.

Jao Ensatsu Koukuryuuha (Jaganshi Form): This is a Movie Exclusive ability. It allows Hiei to release multiple dragons all at once instead of the usual one. Though, a period of hibernation is require after all that. It drains a lot of energy apparently. The technique in this form was never stated to be mastered or not so we're going to be left in the dark. I'm going to say that it does get mastered because of the point and time I am taking this character from. Feel free to critique me if I am wrong. He only used it once and never again during the second movie. It was against the Netherworld God Raigo. It is considered his most powerful attack.

Jaganshi Form (邪眼師) aka Evil Eye Practitioner: This is a body transformation that turns his skin green and allows rather morbid looking eyes to sprout from every part of his body. It's a rather repulsive appearance. The Jagan at that time will be given more power as well. It's much stronger and more effective than ever.It enhances his usual super human speed, which allows him to blind his enemies with a curse. It allows him to summon multiple dragons at once than the usual dragons one at after the other. It's considered a power up up most of the time and most likely a form he only took only twice once during the series and once more during the second movie. Hiei relies on his Jao Ensatsu Koukuryuuha technique more often than this one so it is often forgotten.

Astral Projection: This is a manga exclusive technique that Hiei can separate his physical body and his spirit.

Others: He also has the ability to mask his own youki that allows him to not be found by any one of his companions or anyone in particular unless he wants to be found. Even tracking devices, he could confuse with his own energy and lead people off.

PERSONALITY:
Born as a cursed child, Hiei led a path of loneliness and power, seeking every way to it He would flaunt his precious stone to draw enemies and then kill them. At first glance he is seen as a rather cruel and heartless murderer who could care less about others and more about himself. His trust for demons and humans alike were nonexistence. There was a time when he allowed it just once, but learning that he could no rely on anyone but himself, he closed off his heart completely. There was a loathing darkness in his heart for a long time. It was rare, but during times when no demons dare approached him because of his immense power Hiei would allow himself to indulge in what little happiness was offered by his mother's tear stone that was given to him when he was still a baby. The stone gave him a sense of peacefulness, calmness as if it took all his pains and sorrows away. He values it very much. He often would never show this side of himself around his companions. Emotions were for the weak. He always kept them under check despite being easily roused by others.

When he lost the stone, he realized how important it was to him, hence sacrificing his power for a Jagan.

At least until after his raid of the Reikai vault and ending up as a lackey for Reikai. Hiei goes through a rather slowly yet progressing change in himself. His ambitions were not simply just for power or to be the strongest demon around. It is still was a goal that he wanted to pursue power, but he developed a sense of humanity that he never had before. Despite his constant coldness and rudeness towards his companions he actually does care about them more than he lets on. He eventually opened his eyes to the human race just a little bit, learning that not all humans were the same. His distaste for the human race slowly dispersed as he spent long days in the Ningenkai. He keeps to himself most the time and does not talk unless it was necessary or if he felt in the mood to taunt or provoke someone.

He often makes it a habit to insult people. Those people tend to be idiots, or Kuwabara. Hiei sees him as an easy target of the crew, so he likes to go ahead and piss off Kuwabara for his own amusement. His relationship to Kuwabara doesn't seem to be such a great one but he gets thrills from pissing the poor boy off but also his nerves get plucked by Kuwabara as well.

It is obvious that he also values family. Despite his neutral reactions towards his twin, Hiei actually does spend time watching and protecting her as well as lowering his violence levels when he's around her. When anyone does threaten his only family, he would definitely not give a second thought before killing the person. He's extremely protective as it is clear. He might treat her with a cold shoulders sometimes, but he does it for her own good. He doesn't believe that she would accept him even though she probably would have. After all the girl desperately searched for her only brother day in an day out. As many times as he said he does not care for the Ningenkai, he saved it just as many times. He often never admits to caring, but secretly he does. If he was convinced, he would help others. Most of the time it would mean that he was getting something in return like halving a sentence or some form of power. He doesn't make it a habit to save people and only does it when he has no other choice.

He's rather blunt with everything. He doesn't sugar coat his words when he speaks. If the enemy is weak they're weak if they're strong they're strong. People with interesting abilities intrigue him and he might use that as a reason for even speaking to these people in general. Yes, underneath all that tough skin he's pretty much a softy regarding people he has been close to or spends most of his time with i.e. Yuusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara. At one point during the Three Kings Saga, Hiei came to a conclusion that he had nothing left to live for that there was nothing else he could do with his life, so he would gladly give it up. Though, have his abrupt resurrection thanks to Mukuro, Hiei has gained a new goal to one day be king of Makai, thanks to Yuusuke, but staying loyal to his companions. He would gladly die for them if it was necessary. That is how his mind is set.

Despite his overcast of coldness, he isn't that much different from his companions. He likes a good fight, and he fights fairly. He doesn't use cheap tricks, at least not after Yuusuke pawned him. Hiei also dislikes doing things that are beneath him. He has his own pride to conserve. Hiei is a proud demon despite his disposition. He doesn't cheat his way to a win and gained his own right and name through his own abilities. He had sacrificed so much to gain so little, yet he seemed to be quite content with himself. He still wants to be King of Makai one day. He'll definitely strive for that position against his companions.

SILLY FACTS:
→ the creator actually intended to make hiei and kurama in a 'relationship.' but decided to keep them as close friends instead. XD;
→ hiei made total of three cameos in the creator's hunterxhunter.
→ the VA of hiei referenced hiei in the english DUB version of crayon shin-chan
→ hiei has not reached puberty yet. the race that he is from it is considered that they reached puberty at the age of 100 years old.
→ out of the five members of team urameshi hiei has not lost a fight during the dark tournament. he remained victorious and undefeated in his matches.
→ this is obvious. almost all of his fights he either loses his shirt or someone makes him lose it. or they manage to destroy it!! yay for fan service!
→ hiei has never used his life energy in a match at all.

all little silly things and other details are found here I simply just paraphrased some of it while completely writing the others from a scratch.
