Blerg had a failure of a weekend retreat this weekend. Was gonna have a nice quite trip home since I didn't get to go last weekend (was too nice and swapped shifts with Lois), fix my card to buy things online again, do my prep work for today's seminar, have a nice chill out.
Troubles began on the bus journey to Oakley Arms where the parents were picking me up. Firstly we were in a queue for a 4-minute-at-a-time red light FOUR TIMES! Maths, that means I was stuck there for 16 mins at least.
THEN the worst bit: I had just esacped this stupid traffic light when we got stuck in a queue 'cause there was an accident on the road TEN MINUTES away from my parents. A car was epically on fire ahead of us: I was stuck there for 2 HOURS! And all that time I was desperate for the loo, freezing, and hungry. So frustrating I couldn't just walk to the parents but I wasn't sure where I was and the police started turning people away.
All that day a cold had been brewing in me, and my body decided to pack up Friday and Saturday completely. Had gone to the doctor on Friday to get some horrid antibiotic cream I have to squirt in my eyes for a week, had a cold, my hands cracked and oozed again, felt a bit crap. So didn't get to do my prep work all relaxed over the weekend.
So am in a bad mood from not having a nice weekend, and feeling frustratingly underprepared for my seminar today. Buuuut nice things:
- had nice food for tea on the way back from being picked up, at Royal Oak in Betws, lamb and leek sausages yum!
- got to go home and be pampered for a bit
- I agreed to go back to work the end of today so lois could get an earlier bus. She bought me posh coffee as a present :) I therefore bought myself an 8 cup bright red cafetiere as a present for myself. Will have to chisten it with Matt soon!
There was an offer for work as an extra this Friday from some s4c thing but I'm ill and I think it came to nothing since they were asking for 6 people and our whole house is going to Swn i Cardiff next weekend I think.
I'm excited for this research seminar by an oxford scholar on the illustrations in his Dark Materials - combining two of my favourite things; eng lit and printmaking!
