OH MAN.
I was just updating my OTP list to reflect the new year when I realized I've been in fandom for 15 years now! That's more than half my life :O
I know there are others who've been around much longer, but it's still a surreal realization.
15 years ago, I was in junior high and very obsessed with the x-files. Sadly, this was before widespread internet access, but a friend of mine (and fellow x-phile) somehow discovered fanfic, and printed it out at her mother's work (presumably this is also before monitored internet access, haha) and brought it to school in thick binders.
We'd sit around in the cafeteria at lunch, about five of us, passing around the binders, snickering and red-faced when we got to the NC-17 stories.
So many memories. So much Courrier New.
Eventually, a year or two later, I gained internet access at the local library and would spend blocks of 30 minutes gobbling up stories and hoping no one was reading over my shoulder.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before I discovered that Mulder could not only be paired with Scully. And thus, another slasher was born. (And immediately rewarded with an on-air kiss! I was spoiled early)
