Semi-Professional use of Facebook/Twitter

May 27, 2009 21:15

Several weeks (months?) ago, I deleted my Facebook and Twitter accounts, along with MySpace and BlogSpot, retaining only my LiveJournal account. The reason I did this was because I thought all these social networks were getting a tad out of hand, and I was never all that social anyway. However, I attended the 8th Annual Government Customer Support Conference and I learned that several professional and federal agencies were using many of these tools - and I decided to reactivate Facebook and Twitter as professional forums - primarily.

I am importing my Livejournal blogs into Facebook as a feed, but only my public entries will make it - to read my personal entries you will still have to go into LJ to read those. But otherwise, I'm going to try to maintain professional presences on Twitter/Facebook.

Meanwhile, if you are curious what I mean about professional twitters, I am following currently:
@BarackObama
@GovGab
@USAgov
@IvyMeadors
@Schwarzenegger
@owenthomas - my friend and new online editor w/ nbcbayarea
@whitehouse
@astro_127 - Astronaut Mark Polansky
@astro_mike - Astronaut Mike Massimino

As well as several personal friends - and I still welcome contact from friends; I will love to keep up with your tweets
