My Official Christmas Post
Merry Christmas / Prettig Kerstfeest / Frohe Weihnachten
It's been a pretty good Christmas, since as far as Christmases go the holiday just hasn't been quite as exciting since my parents got divorced. I especially miss the game we used to play to distribute presents (mom is very creative and designed and constructed a Christmas board game when we were young, which we used to play every year). I hope that someday I will get to celebrate Christmas with a big family again because honestly, as much as I adore my mother, it gets to be kind of boring with just the 2 of us. Still, I am grateful I get to spend the holidays with the person I love most in this world.
As far as the loot goes, I got penguin slipper-socks, two penguin ornaments, a bangle, and some cooking utensils. I'll see my dad and my sister on Sunday. I really hope dad got me the pre-order for Mass Effect 2 that I begged him for. It's really the only "fun" thing I passionately wanted this Christmas; it is kind of sad but I have so little free time that I just ask for practical things, like clothes and cooking gear.
But! I totally got spoiled by various people on my flist. ♥♥ shokora_kukki sent me the cute penguin v-gift AND the adorable book And Tango Makes Three which has GAY PENGUINS. 8D <3 And shoujo22 sent me hot cocoa mix and a mug, which is great because up at school I drink so much tea and hot cocoa but I am so lazy about doing dishes, so I am always out of mugs. Thank you thank you thank you guys so much!! *loves on* I will try to send everyone some cards/things later... I really haven't been on top of things for Christmas this year, because my final projects were so rough and when those were done I immediately needed to jump into yuletide.
Speaking of yuletide!! ♥♥ (which you already saw some of my incoherent spazz-flailing about, before I'd even read it) somebody wrote me Every Day Like This One, in the Assassin's Creed fandom, based on my request for Altaïr backstory/characterization. I have to admit that it was the fic I wanted most out of all 4 requests, and whoever my anonymous yuleperson is, they gave me everything I wanted and more. ♥ I really couldn't ask for anything better.
And I did get better! I wrote two stories for yuletide this year, one main story and one pinch hit (for a total of about 14,000 words), and both my recipients seem to have loved them. One of them even squee-flailed and wrote a sparkly review on her journal. :D! It made me happy because for that one I struggled a lot to come up with a solid concept, but my approach seems to have worked.
Like tarigwaemir, I'd love to offer ficlets to anyone who can guess either of the stories I wrote, but I doubt anyone will get it (or care). My main story should be easy to guess for anyone who knows me and is in that fandom, since it bears resemblances to another fic I have written, but I don't think anyone on my flist is in that fandom. For the pinch hit, I know several of you are in that fandom, but I don't think you know that /I/ am, and the story itself is a little uncharacteristic of me. (Maybe. Or maybe it's just that I felt way out of my comfort zone while writing it.) I will say that they are both game fandoms, but that was probably easy to guess considering I also requested only game fandoms this year.
