Ooo. Rationing even happiness, and treating the pilgrimage like a 2-month trip to Vegas at the end of which one is bust... yikes.

Very intriguing idea for where this woman came from, and why she's annoyed at Yuna for riding her father's coat-tails.

Oh, Dona. I like that this makes her more sympathetic, and my heart aches for the little girl who has to divide things up this way. Yet at the same time I sort of resent her for cheating her mother like that--the story doesn't say, but my own parental experiences suggest that her mother would have taken only half of the portion left for her and given the rest to Dona, and that makes her seem greedy. But that might just be the echoes in my head. Regardless, it's a wonderful piece.
