The Sunday after Thanksgiving was lovely and fun, starting with fresh baked cinnamon rolls and a latte in the morning. We were very productive and accomplished a lot of things around the house. The weather was so nice that we opened the windows and spent a lot of time outside. I groomed a very tall holly bush that was threatening to block our bedroom window, Glenn hung up Christmas lights, and I put up some other decorations.
Then we took a break for lunch and after that we put up our Christmas tree and decorated the fireplace. I've never put up holiday decorations this early before. Since I was a kid, we always waited 'till early or mid-December. But now that it's all done, and it was so unhurried and relaxed, I totally get why people do this on Thanksgiving weekend. It's a 4-day weekend so you (hopefully) have time before the rest of the holiday madness starts.
Holiday madness-wise, it looks like I won't have much. That is to say, not much work. For the second Christmas in a row. An every-weekend-in-December gig that was on my calendar since the fall fell through, and I didn't find out until Thanksgiving weekend. That sucks, but it isn't all that surprising considering the client. Still, it sucks. I need to really work on getting solo music gigs myself. Well, I have some ideas so we'll see if I can make it (and myself) work next Christmas.
At any rate, Beth is enjoying the lights and shiny things. It was still really warm after dark on Sunday so we took Beth for a walk to look at the lights that the neighbors had put up. She liked the lights, but got pretty ticked off when we wouldn't let her walk onto people's front lawns for a closer look! To appease her, we stopped at the playground. That was fun in that "playing outside after dark" way -- I loved playing hide and seek and tag at night when I was a kid.
Beth has been pretty delightful lately. I'm enjoying her a lot. We took her to the monthly chanty sing at the Royal Mile on Tuesday night. She was very good and upstaged me as always. I'm used to it!
