I had an amazing evening last night. Batman was sneaky and wonderful.
Firstly, he stopped by the greenhouse and brought me lunch. That in itself was pretty cool, not to mention meeting the greenhouse folks can be much more traumatizing then meeting my family. Then at around 3:30 I got a text from him saying "I got you a surprise!" I like surprises, so this in itself was pretty freakin' cool.
"Oh my! :)"
"Can you be here by 6?"
"I think so! Do I get a hint"
"Hint: we're going somewhere."

So I left work about 5 minutes early, rushed home, changed into something halfway decent, and zoomed to his house.
He wouldn't tell me anything. Just asked if I would like to eat at Flatbread's. (its a really really yummy organic pizza place with a wood burning brick oven)
In the car I ask where we're going again, and if I could have another hint. "It's not in Maine" is all I get. So we drive to Portsmouth and after several comments about how happy I was that I wore my big thick wool coat because it was snowing, we eventually got to Flatbread's.
1 hour wait for a table. The bar is first come first served, and as we look over, there is a smoochy drunk couple signing their credit card slip and we are sitting in 30 seconds. Amazing timing on his part.
Awesome salad, amazing homemade sausage pizza with caramelized onions, sun dried tomato, and mushrooms among other stuff, then a warm a gooey brownie with ice cream in the side.
We went back out into the snow and walked literally around the corner to the Music Hall. If you have never been in this building, go. The bathrooms alone are worth a visit.
There are signs all over the place, but nothing saying what the show is. I went into the amazing bathrooms and had to stop myself asking the other ladies what was showing that night for Batman's sake.
We went upstairs and I began looking hard for fliers or anything, and on one of the walls was about 8 or so posters of upcoming shows. I was mid sentence when my eyes zoomed in on "Striking Twelve" with "December 5th" below it.
"... Holy crap. Are we.... did you bring me to ... Holy Crap!!!" And there was jumping and hugging and smooching and lots of smiling "I hate you"s followed by "I love you."
Striking Twelve is a show performed by Groove Lily. It's a new years eve show about a guy who reads The Little Match Girl while he is grumpy and alone on new years. It's beautiful. The band is from New York City, and had spent some time in Seattle last I knew. Basically I never, ever, ever though I would get to see them. I've bought at least 6, if not more copies of this show to give as holiday gifts because I think it's that great. It came into my life while I was a senior in college and having a really miserable time of it and was a really amazing message. I remember sharing it with my roommate Nedly and when it came to the end, the last speaking line, he cried and I cried with him. It was rather silly, but it was that moving at the moment.
I had played the CD for Batman on the way to Moosehead once because it's good to listen to stories in the car, and the music is also really well done. I listen to it sometimes when I am sewing too. He apparently heard it on the radio last week that they were coming to New Hampshire and got tickets earlier that day.
The show itself was awesome, with some different lines and songs, but thankfully they still made fun of Bing Crosby and David Bowie singing the little drummer boy. I was so surprised.
One of the more amazing gifts I've been given.
Truly.
