Happy New Year!
Everyone else is doing it...
2000 was the year I turned 22 (am not sure if that seems forever ago to me or just a few minutes ago, actually...) Began 2000 by moving myself (well, with the help of my parents) across the state to Pullman for school. I had my new car, which was a red Eagle Talon with a sunroof. My parents said I could have a car if I didn't move back down to California (where I was bombing school by goofing off too much anyway). I think I kind of knew that wasn't the best place for me to be and decided a new start at a new school would be the better option. The snow was really hideous so we headed through Oregon. It was a pretty long trip. Trying to move furniture and going to buy furniture at Shopko were difficult on the icy roads in Pullman. Was happily moved into my first non dorm apartment and living on my own. Spent the first half of the year with exactly one kind of friend. She came over a couple of times. Mostly I hung out by myself. I can tend to do that sometimes. When left to my own devises I can get really anti social. And I didn't have high speed internet or anything either, so it isn't like I had a particularly active internet social life. Just liked to sit around and write. Thankfully ashkitty moved out (in the summer I think?) and got me out of the apartment. Made friends with elbaz and zombiechick and others and had generally all around fantastic time of writing groups, Rico's (still wish I could find a bar like Rico's around here, but I guess it's one of a kind).
I graduated in the summer of 2001 and took a job at the deli of a grocery store because I wasn't quite ready to stop hanging out with my friends and goofing off yet. However, I had to work at 6 every morning and didn't have weekends off so really I was passed out by 9 most evenings so hanging out was hard. Packed up the end of 2001 and headed back to Gig Harbor to look for a job. Got back New Year's Eve 2001. Think I saw my friend Jenny at the party, or at least around that time. Because she told me that there was a job she was temping for that she had been offered but turned down because of a better offer. She said that she would recommend me. That job was as a buyer for a company that manufactured asphalt paving equipment. I did not realize that buying was an actual career path at the time. Fast forward 8 years and I am still a buyer, so I guess it's a career path. =p So I moved back on 12/31/01 and started work on 1/4/02.
I was still living at home, but had asked my aunt she was interested in renting out the place she owned in Tacoma (that was sitting empty) and she said yes. Around that time blackfaer's room mate moved back to his home state and blackfaer could not afford his rent on his own so was looking to move in somewhere with a room mate. We moved into my aunt and uncle's place in April. I'm sure a lot of things happened in the next couple of years and blackfaer moved out an got married, but I can't remember the exact year, because, well, it all kind of runs together), but a lot of it is stuff that hardly signifies in a decade in review sort of post. Work was stressful, but I excelled, as I usually do.
In 2005 I finally got a passport and went to Europe for the first time. Ashkitty called me and said we were going to go to Ireland. I didn't quite think she was serious. I got my passport and we ended up going to England, Wales, and France. So...not Ireland, but we had people to visit in those places.
In 2007 I applied for a job on a whim. We were trying to hire buyers and the agency we were using said there were not a lot of buyers available because "big mondo aerospace company" is hiring everyone with any buying experience and paying them a lot more than anyone else was paying. I though "hmmm." And started my career at "big mondo aerospace company" in Oct. of 2007. Have been pretty successful there and received a promotion earlier this year in spite of lay-offs going on at the same time.
At the end of March 2008 I bought my house. I love my house. My house continues to make me happy.
In 2009 I went to visit ashkitty in Wales and also hung out around London. Also visited an old high school friend in Germany. Had a lovely time kicking around Europe. Love to travel.
Now ashkitty and I are off to ring in 2010 with elbaz and zombiechick and their new addition they got this year.
