lizardbeth_j was nice enough to remind me in yesterday's post that our very own Michael Trucco celebrates his birthday on June 22. In his honor, why don't we try to:

Oh, hey! Also I wrote this little thing once because it amused me to think that Sam and Gaius might have been friends. Then it was going to transition into Sam and Kara tromping around New Caprica having lots of sex discovering things, but I never got around to that part. If anyone wants to Round Robin, you're welcome to have at it.

Title: Honeymoon

It all started with a note.

K,

Gaius Baltar wants to meet with us at 5pm, if you can make it.

Love you,
S

To be perfectly honest, the 5pm threw her even more than the out-of-the-blue request from Baltar. Quirk of being married to a civvie she wasn’t sure she’d ever get used to.

But she made it, finding Sam in Baltar’s antechamber. “Do you know what this is about?” she asked him.

“Not a clue,” Sam replied. “But it’s kind of nice. We were never really friends or anything, but I’d gotten so used to thinking of every non-C-Buc I knew as dead.”

“What do you mean by-” she started, but just then Lieutenant Gaeta-Mr. Gaeta, now? Whatever-opened the door.

“The president’s ready to see you now,” Gaeta said.

Even that odd little hint couldn’t have prepared Kara to see their greeting:

“Samuel,” Baltar said warmly, extending a hand, and Sam shook it.

“Gaius,” Sam said, and much to her surprise, then pulled Baltar into a man-hug, fists between them as Sam clapped him on the back. “It’s good to see you, man.”

“My apologies for not calling you in earlier. Things are a bit busy around here, as you can guess.”

“Those pretty girls won’t sleep with themselves, huh, you sneaky bastard?”

She really couldn’t take it anymore. “What the frak is going on?”

Baltar looked up, noticing her for the first time. “Lieutenant Thrace,” he said, a bit stiffly.

“Captain,” she corrected.

“Captain. Your new husband and I…ran in the same circles in Caprica City,” Gaius explained.

“Two of C-City’s most eligible bachelors. Frakked a lot of the same women, basically,” Sam said with a wicked grin as he pulled her into a chair across Baltar’s desk.

Kara wasn’t proud of the surprised, strangled noise she made in the back of her throat, but there it was.

Sam suddenly dropped the grin and was all concern. “Sorry, I...I didn’t think that’d be weird to say.”

Which was fair enough, on his part. Neither was secretive about the fact that they hadn’t exactly been pillars of chastity before they met. She knew about his high-profile exes, half-remembered names from supermarket tabloids, and he knew a little bit about Zak and even more about Karl. But he did not. Know. About. Baltar. The less said about that night, the better, in Kara’s opinion.

“Sorry, nothing. It’s f-fine,” she stammered, and locked eyes with Baltar in a cool stare.

Baltar cleared his throat. “Right. So. I didn’t bring you both in here to discuss Samuel’s pre-nuptial sex life. Quite the opposite, in fact. I heard about the wedding and wanted to congratulate you.”

“You should have sent a card.”

“It’s a little bit more involved than that. On behalf of the government of New Caprica, I would like to offer you a wedding present,” he said. “A honeymoon.”

“Honeymoon? To where?” Sam asked.

“The Eastern hemisphere. A working honeymoon, really. I’d like to have the continent there surveyed, but the Admiral has denied my request for personnel. I do have a Raptor at my disposal, though, and it’s yours if you can fly it, Captain.”

“If I can fly it?” she all but screeched, rising slightly out of her chair. “A Raptor? I can fly anything with wings, and you frakking know it.” Sam’s touch on her hand brought her back down.

“Not sure if that was very dumb or very well played, Gaius,” Sam said, cheerily, “but sounds like we’re going.”

“Excellent,” Baltar said. “My Chief of Staff will help you requisition whatever you need.”

***

“And you’re going to sit ECO. Like what Helo did for Sharon on the way home from Caprica,” she said.

“I didn’t pay a single bit of attention to Helo on the ride from Caprica,” he said. “I seem to remember something else occupying my attention.

“All in atmo, no jumping, no enemy contacts. It’s not going to be hard. Just sit there and look pretty and hit the occasional button when I tell you to.”

AWKWARD. Poor Kara. And yet. *giggles a lot*

Sigh. One of the things I'm always sad that we missed was the exploration of New Caprica!

LOLOL. "Frakked the same women" and Kara's right there. HEEEEEEE.

Yeah, I tend to think that Sam and Gaius at least have met each other. "Friends" would be a stretch (while I think Sam is plenty smart, I don't think Gaius would give him the chance to prove it) but acquaintances who might party together I could buy.

LOL, please, if it were any other context, Kara would be like "Lots of ladies in the past but now it's mine to tap, frak yeah I'm awesome."

Certainly weren't homies by any means, especially considering that Sam seemed to have 0% interest in Baltar's trial (granted, some other important stuff was happening in his life, but, you know.) But they've totally partied.

Haha, this story. I like it!

I like the idea of Gaius and Sam going to a few of the same big ticket Caprica City events. It makes sense.

“Gaius, It’s good to see you, man.”

Seven words I never thought could ever actually work in a Sam-centric fanfic! But it sounds so Sam, I can't help but love it a lot. This is pretty great, and I just wish New Caprica had ultimately been this sweet for them.
