The "Official Companion" to BSG season four came out recently and
latteaddict was kind enough to transcribe a few parts. I'm reposting some of the Kara/Sam related passages here. Probably nothing you haven't heard before, but definitely "aww" worthy. Bolded parts are quoted:
The caption for a pic of Sam pointing a gun down at Leoben says - One thing is clear: Anders, Cylon or not, will always protect his wife.
Michael Trucco - “ We were going to get a glimpse into Ander’s life on Earth...sitting around an apartment (with Tyrol, Tory and others) playing that song, in a casual ‘sit back with a bottle of wine and have some friends over’ kind of way.” [Not ship-related, but interesting!]
[From the Kara character section]:
Ron Moore - “We wanted Kara to have literally died and come back to life...There was something about her being not one of us, and yet identifiably mortal. We wanted (her death) to have mysteries and ambiguities around it. We didn’t want to clearly define her character and her origin too specifically, because the more vague you kept it, the more interesting it became.”
The Kara/Sam storyline was one of the most touching of the season, with two characters fractured understanding of themselves serving to further cement their rather tragic relationship. Sackhoff reveals, however, that the writers’ initial idea had been that Ander’s reveal as a Cylon would drive Kara back into the arms of Lee Adama. [Glad they changed their minds! *g*]
[From the section on Sam]:
Michael Trucco: “It was good to be back on set and at work...But it got really difficult at times, emotionally, in the hospital bed sequences before he goes into permanent coma. Just being hooked up to all that equipment - even though they’re all props - being in a hospital bed so soon after the accident stirred up a lot of emotion, because it was just a little too close to home.”
About Sam and Kara - “That volatility was the hinge of the relationship. I can’t put words into Katee’s mouth, but Kara Thrace had a pattern of driving people away from her. That was kind of the characterisation of Starbuck, to keep people at arm’s length. For me, playing Anders, I refused to accept that. And even though we had our ups and downs and there were times when he just walked away, ultimately, he always came back to her, and it felt like she always came back to him. And that closure at the very end, the scene where they have their last goodbye - I felt that you could see the walls of both characters break down. He steps out of his daze for a second and he says: ‘I’ll see you on the other side.’ There was a moment of recognition, and it was a really beautiful moment on screen for us. It was really quite harmonious, and that, to me, encapsulated their relationship perfectly. Ultimately, through all that bullshit, there was closure and togetherness.”
... Aww! :DDDD
And, via
greycoupon, from Katee Sackhoff:
BTW, what really happened to Starbuck? Here's Sackhoff's theory about her ambiguous conclusion on Battlestar Galactica. "So when she at the end was saying goodbye to [Anders], I think that she was saying goodbye to their bodily forms," she said. "I think she knew, especially if he says, 'I'll see you on the other side,' I think she's with him. I think they're both dead, but I think she's with him. That was a decision that we made, because I selfishly wanted her at peace, and the only way to do that was to have her with someone at the end, or to be with the person she wanted to be with. I don't know. That's kind of where I think she is. She's with Michael Trucco playing pyramid in the sky somewhere."
And:
"She realized in that moment that she would never be able to truly give herself to him. There's this weird thing where you can love someone completely but when you're with them you're not as good as you could be. And I think when she was with Lee she doubted herself so much that she wasn't as strong as she could be. When she found Anders...granted she might have married him for the wrong reasons...but when she found Anders she found a person who let her be herself and not have to apologize for it and she truly flourished with him.
I love this cast! <3 Katee interviews
