Graham is actually spot on. The big N have said plenty of times that with the wii they aren't competing with Sony or Microsoft but rather going in their own direction. This new direction has given them a new audience of people that like doing things instead of just sitting down pressing buttons. However the Wii also has enough elements and games to keep your average gamer interested with the likes of zelda, mario and metroid prime. I can't argue your points on Red Steel. Wii sports is a game that gets more fun each time you play it as the games become ore competitive and interesting as you improve I don't think that playing tennis once and boxing twice gives one the right to judge the whole game. Wii sports has been played more than any of my other wii games including zelda which i think says something about whether or not it would be worth buying on its on.
In regards to Zelda...You're right..the game is no different to how it is on the Wii..graphics are slightly better...but i'll be honest..it feels great to swing the remote around like a sword. Does that make the wii worth buying? Probably not...but luckily that isn't all it has to offer. The Wii's virtual console lets you buy games from 5 different consoles including the SNES, Mega Drive and N64....3 of the most popular and successful consoles ever. The fact you can buy good quality games for a really cheap price really is a bonus and more games get added every Friday. In order to remain fair and not sound like some nintendo fan boy i'd like to add that there are a ton of games on the virtual console that I would never dream of buying and can't imagine who would. The bad games do outweigh they good ones but looking at what's to come in the future it can be excused.
Onto the channels...being able to look at the weather and the news on your Wii obviously isn't going to be an incentive for gamers...but for non gamers i can imagine it would be a great addition...i've used it a few times..but like most people i get my news from watching...the news. New channels keep being released...I recently downloaded this channel that's basically a world wide poll of questions..you give your answer and then a few days later you see who else around the world answered the same as you and the wii records all the data...nothing great...but it's just kinda neat. Wanna add that i've only been to this channel once. I mention it though because more and more things like this are going to be released and some of them are bound to be cool and interesting...Things are just getting started in Wii land.
I can't and won't argue with the release line up...With the exception of Wii sports and Zelda the release line up was very poor. Though both Wario Ware and the new sonic game do look good...I doubt i'll be getting them mostly due to lack of interest. You did however ignore the very strong line up for later in the year. Smash bros, Mario, Metroid prime 3, a new SSX and that trauma centre game are all looking to be hits and lets not forget the promise of a new mario kart and ff: crystal chronicles which on the wii should be super.
Your run on the Wii was very brief and you played one below average game and one game you hadn't got the hang of yet...seeing as you are uber gamer I know you would appreciate Zelda even though you've never really touched the series before. Next time you play, hopefully it will be for a longer time and hopefully, although it's unlikely for a while you'll have more variety of games to play with. Until then...don't ever compare the Wii to the fucking eye toy!

I'm sure Wii sports is a good party game when you're high but you'll have a hard time convincing me its anything other than a bare-bones sports sim that lacks depth. It just seems a little half-assed. They could have made it twice as good and still given it away free with the console.
Now, I keep hearing all this crap about Nintendo not competing with Sony and Microsoft. Well like it or not, they have no choice. The non-gamer market is a shallow pit at past and there are only so many people that are going to be pulled in by the cheap price tag and flashy controller before the well runs dry and even those who've bought one, how long before its picking up dust in the corner? Non-gamers don't keep up to date on the latest releases and whats worth buying or not. I think that after picking up the third dud of the last few months, most of them will hang up their wiimote, take the console out back and put it out of its misery so the kids don't have to watch it suffer.(Figuratively speaking of course) As for the actual gamers, you know as well as I do that they're a picky breed. Most won't be able to afford multiple consoles and be even less capable to keep them updated with good games. Good games sell consoles. Not "Wow, you COULD use the wiimote to___" or "wouldn't a wii version of ____ be so cool" No one in the right mind is going to buy a console based on "what ifs"
You mention the virtual console. I'd like you to meet my friend, Emulation. Every single console you mentioned (Yes, including the N64) can be downloaded and provided with countless free roms. Yeah, its illegal but when has that ever mattered? The 360 has the same thing with retro titles and self-made titles. I won't pretend that they're in the league of the big Nintendo classics but its essentially the same service as the Wii virtual console, with the addition of new games. The channels thing, yeah it seems like a nice enough feature. If um, you don't have the internet. Yeah, I get the whole "Super special nintendo community!!!" feel but still, all it warrants is a meh.
Now, onto the line-up. You mention 5 titles with "the promise" of another 2. Granted, i'm sure a few more will pop up out of the woodwork but 10 quality titles out of 100 is piss-poor on Nintendos part. I'm sure i'm not the only one that doesn't want to sift through mounds of shit in order to find some whole pieces of corn. Lets take a look at the 360. Released little over a year ago and I can name something around the region of 30 quality titles with at least 10 more in the next 6 months. Now when I say quality I don't mean genre-breaking, world-changing, "Hey maw, the dams gawn burst!" titles. I'm talking about games that are enjoyable, original for the most part and have some lasting appeal. I haven't carefully calculated the ratio between good and bad titles but it doesn't take a genius to look at the figures and be able to tell that overall, this is very good.
I think Nintendos main problem is that they're really the only ones who understand the potential of their new console. Super mario, Smash brothers, Zelda, mario kart, metroid. Notice a similarity? All Nintendo. While i'm sure thats a fan-boys dream, its a little more concerning to the rest of us. Every console has the support of 3rd party developers but the ones supporting Nintendo seem to be struggling much more than the ones supporting our good friends at Microsoft and Sony. They've brough along this great "innovation" (again, I use the term loosely) and no-one else seems to have any ideas of what to do with it.
My opinion is based on previous research and close examination of the pros and cons of the console. I kept an open mind when playing but in the short time I had with it, nothing changed the fact that I think as a console, it lacks depth.

It is very hard to argue with any of this as it is all based on fact and your personal opinion.
The way I see it...my massive rant was a more positive look at the wii while yours was a negative one. One could do the same thing with the 360 and the ps3 each console has it's pros and cons and in my opinion the wii's obvious cons are outweighed by how enjoyable playing it is. However that is again opinion.
There really isn't a whole lot more to say as both of us have laid down pretty much all the facts, our own opinions and how we believe the general public will in the long term respond to the console. As i said before...I hope upon playing it further you change your mind about the wii but I understand that you more than likely won't until there are better quality games.
